Huh? Because it was a topic of conversation at the time when Howie made the comment...

What you're saying is that there was no way Wentz could have possibly made it a more comfortable conversation. I disagree.

Although it wouldn't be the first time Howie said more than he should have or provided the wrong message ("QB factory!").

What? No. I'm saying Howie probably felt uncomfortable because it's an awkward conversation to have until you have that conversation and see how they handle it and react.

Uncomfortable for Howie? Who cares? He made the decision to pick Hurts; he clearly thought it was worth it despite any upcoming "uncomfortableness" with Carson.

Uncomfortable for Carson? That's what I assumed most people cared about.

I'm often wrong.

^^Feel free to quote that and use it whenever.^^

From Garofolo:

Carson Wentz on the #Eagles drafting Jalen Hurts: "Excited to add him to the team. ... Heard nothing but great things about Jalen, the kid he is and the player he is. I got a chance to talk to him just briefly. Create a really good, healthy, competitive challenging environment.""

Didn’t take long for Carson to start making this a non-issue.

Dang that Carson not giving us message board fodder to fill the time!

Clearly, we're totally fine making something out of nothing.

If it was "always" going to be uncomfortable, then why is it a topic of discussion? 🤷🏼‍♂️

Because someone made a thread about it, so we’re talking about it.

The board often times has been.

What? We are talking about what Howie said, its a thread about that interview / comment so who said anything about caring?

If even Howie allowed that the conversation was uncomfortable, Wentz didn't have to be so pro-team so soon. He could have hedged and driven more controversy.

Obviously not. He doesn't swear.

Naw bud. Wentz played this right. He doesn’t want to say anything that could cause for of a controversy. Both Hurts and Wentz have done a good job of trying to downplay this thing. Really this won’t come to head until the season is in effect. 2021 is bigger than next year, because the end of that season the Eagles might need to make some difficult choices. It’s too soon to make waves.

Absolutely. I'm not sure what people expected from Wentz... That he was going to trash the pick? Trash Hurts? Trash Howie?

We definitely needed a good backup based on Wentz' injury history, but it didn't have to be the 53th pick in the draft.

I agree with that. It's definitely harder to get a good player (especially a QB) as the draft goes on and given the injury history with our QB, I get it. I don't necessarily agree with it, but I get it.

Fair enough, I get it too....just wish they would have went about it in a different way.  There's just no scenario where they come out looking smart here.  Either Hurts rides the bench and was a wasted 2nd round pick that gets traded for less, or he plays due to another Wentz injury and the team is out 100 million dollars.

Howie was on WIP saying when he had to tell Wentz he felt uncomfortable because he knows its never easy for a QB to hear they are drafting another QB high. He felt bad knowing this might make Wentz uncomfortable.

Thats it. That was his feeling before he told him. Wentz said nothing or did nothing to make it a uncomfortable situation.

The title of this article is there to make a story out of nothing. I heard the entire phone chat on WIP when it happened. Nothing to see here.

That was exactly how I took it from the beginning.

Yeah I interpreted it differently. Howie also said Wentz of course wanted the most playmakers possible, or something to that effect, but his job (Howie) requires not just thinking about this year. Taken all together it struck me as Carson was not pleased.

Don't count Wentz as one of those phanatics surprised or unnerved by the Hurts selection.

"With Jalen, I'm excited to add him to the team," Wentz told reporters on a conference call in his first comments since the draft. "I know how important the quarterback position is and how important the dynamic is for me and for the other guys in that room. I've been blessed over the years to have some incredible, not just quarterbacks, but incredible humans and friends in that quarterback room. We really endure a lot together and go through (a lot) together. So I'm excited.

"I've heard nothing but great things about Jalen, the player that he is. Got a chance to talk to him just briefly. So I'm excited to add him to the fold and create a really good, healthy, competitive, challenging environment for all of us. Excited to add him to the fold."

Remains a stupid pick from a stupid GM that should be fired.

Howie is terrible. A snakeoil salesman with no integrity.

Billie Mays couldn't sell me on this BS of drafting Hurts.

Exactly, it’s the second worst pick in the draft after Green Bay taking Jordan Love.  It’s honestly a fireable offense given the other areas of need on the roster and the players available.

I think it's too early to determine it the second worst pick in the draft. I can understand why so many are upset, I can also see the thinking behind the move. Let's see how it plays out.

I get the rational...but its still stupid. Anything can be spun which is what Howie does constantly.

I just simply can not tolerate the misuse of resources by Howie. He is by far the reason the team has declined as they have since the Super Bowl. The young talent is just not there or is rather mediocre for the team moving forward.

Things can change until the season starts but they look very 8-8ish to me right now.

Howie is a business man. He’s not a football guy by any stretch of the imagination. He does not understand anything about team chemistry and should not be allowed anywhere near the draft room.

This is a pretty ignorant thing to say

It’s just football, these guys are big boys they will be fine. Fans and media seemed to be way more concerned about this than they should

I just think try and see the bigger picture.

What if the cap does drop by $30-80M in a couple of years? If Hurts has flashed during some opportunities in the next couple of years imagine his trade value.
