Maybe it plays out like that, maybe it doesn't.  Look, I get why the NFL protects it's brand, but, again, I don't like people's personal correspondence being poured over for imperfections.  I can promise you that you've written the word "rhee-****" on here.  If that somehow saw that light of day and you were fired over it, would you be good with that?

I think it would be abundantly clear to anyone who goes back and parses my posts that I've singled individuals out and not attacked or slandered protected groups of people (like ethnicities, etc...), which is the what the NFL and most employers would consider the "red line"

If Gruden was caught calling De Smith a "rhee***" he'd still be employed right now. But he didn't. He attacked gays, women, and made a racist comment.

This is probably true of the post-college me. But before that, all bets are off. I'm not sure a day went by with my roommates where we didn't call each other ghey at least 3 times before dinner.

And then there’s what you did together after dinner

Wait, so was it or was it not his private email? I'm confused.

I'm not sure.  I was going off the assumption that it was his work email, but tool's right, it was before he was on the team.  Could've been an ESPN email address though.

My guess is that he's be gone either way.

@Kz! Please don't like my posts.

I have no idea, but I don't see a huge distinction there.

I understand the mantra that what you say publicly is open to scrutiny.  I just don't like the idea that private conversations are studied for mistakes.  Life's messy and people are a-holes sometimes.

Fair enough, but when those private conversations reveal a major character flaw that the vast majority of the league's players are going to have a major issue with, I don't know what else the NFL can do here. It's a messy situation for everyone involved, but Gruden still should've known better. Very dumb mistake that came back to haunt him.

I'd hope not.

Sad to say, but I'm not really sure this one moved the needle much. Maybe not the women thing either, tough call there, but the lips comment instantly lost him any locker room he tries to set foot in ever again. But yeah, all 3 taken together, and it's pretty much a wrap.

I wonder how many NFL personnel could hold up to this level of investigation.

I was thinking the same.

I can 100% with certainty say that there would be nothing in my email history, private or business that would be found.

Never said the N word?

Only when telling my kids never to say it and when repeating something offensive I've heard. Never, ever, in anger.

Not regular people, among NFL coaches.

You dropped the n word with a hard r on your kids. Yikes.

We and the NFL have such an interesting view of morality. Say mean things in emails you believe to be private a decade ago is an immediate dismissal. Threaten to murder your father-in-law while committing an act of domestic violence against your wife while a free agent. Hired several months later.

Tyreek Hill has beaten the ever-loving-ish out of his girlfriend multiple times and broke his son's arm and he's one of the league's marquee players.

There's not a single sports fan that exists today who thinks the NFL aren't self serving hypocrites on any matter. Tyreek Hill should be jail.

Yeah, like you have never said it.

100%. What other response is there when they bring home an "F"?

Yeah, like you have never said it.

I've never even repeated it while listening to rap music which I enjoy listening to. I also watch the NBA.

So if he had sent that via his private email, the NFL wouldn't have forced him to resign?  We both know they would've.

Yes, if his friend outed his racism, and had proof, he probably would have.

If he sent the private email, to another private email, it would not be public record.

But he sent to somebody in the WFT.

It's all flooded out swampland so who really knows. He could be 30 miles off the coast of the Yucatan Peninsula by now.

On the subject of morality, aren't the only people who are guilty of "hurting" anyone in this ordeal the journalists who decided to print the story? We're talking about private emails from a decade ago. Their contents would have never had a chance to see the light of day unless these people decided to release them. Any "hurt" in the gay, black, or **** NFL commissioner communities was directly caused by the writers covering the story, not Gruden. I use quotes because I don't actually think anyone would be so fragile that they'd let a 10-year-old email from some dude they don't know effect them emotionally in any way.

I'm not worried at all.  Thankfully, I was a teenager before email/texts were popularized.

Seriously - Urban Meyer probably sent Gruden a fruit basket this morning
