Funny you should mention Charlie Chan. I used to watch them every Saturday night back in the late seventies. I even kept a log of which ones I had watched and gave all of them grades. Hadn't seen them since until about a week ago when I realized they were available to watch on Youtube. I've watched a couple (Charlie Chan in London; Charlie Chan's Murder Cruise) already. I preferred the Warner Oland ones.

Thats actually how I started watching them, as a Kid they were on every week late at night. And I too found them on Youtube about a year ago.  The Warner Oland ones were more serious and better written. Sindey Toler was decent, but the quality of writing etc... started dropping off later in the series, and Roland Winters is nothing to write home about. My Fav is at the Opera, with Boris Karloff. 

From there, there are the knockoffs, Mr Wong series Staring Boris Karloff and Mr Moto staring Peter Lorre. Some of the later Chan movies under Monogram were rewrites of MR wong stories. 

I love watching old Films, The Thin Man series, almost anything with Carey Grant, Humphrey Bogart etc.   I'd rather watch an old film from the 30's-40's than some of the CGI crap going on today.  But thats just me.
