Playoffs?

Is this team positioned to make a run at a wild card spot?  The NFL has joined the ranks of the NHL and NBA and expanded the tournament.  Still, I think this team is not finished with its growing pains, and as favorable as those matchups against the Giants and Skins may seem, they are division games, and gimmes by no stretch of the matter.  Thoughts?

Some fans are happy to make the playoffs no matter how slim the odds are of them having any success once in.  Me … I just want to see steady improvement as the season progresses, I’m not thinking about playoffs (I am one of those that thinks we wouldn't stand a chance against teams like the Rams, Packers, etc … I’m not happy simply making the playoffs, the ultimate goal is competing for a championship).  For this year, I’m just hoping the coaches get a better idea of what works, the players get more comfortable with their assignments in the new schemes, Howie makes smart decisions with the draft picks in April to add some much needed talent, and we are in much better position to compete for a championship next year.

No. I look at the teams a head of them. They aren't better than the Niners, Rams or Panthers. Sunday, they'll find out if they are better than the Saints. I don't think they are.  Besides, they aren't sweeping both the Skins and Giants, and let's win a home game first. 0-4 at home, and people are talking playoffs? 🤷‍♀️

If they win Sunday...it'll cross my mind. But not I'm not expecting playoffs.

We beat the Panthers in Carolina when Srianni was still under the impression that it was a good idea to have Hurts throw the ball 40 times a game.

The thing about Luck, Life, and all other part of Reality...It comes when you least expect it, and irrelevant of your wishes or desires. I would not bet against us winning a Super Bowl this year, although the odds against it must be astronomical.

If they make the play offs then ok great that's encouraging. If they don't but are in the mix then that's also OK. Ultimately it is about progress this year and looking at the future.

The fact that a conversation is even remotely possible about the Eagles' chances at making the playoffs is evidence that this team is heading in the right direction after the flustercluck we trotted out there last year.

Or that the division still isn't good

If we do sneak into the Wild Card slot, we would be beyond lucky to make it past the first round.  We do have some talent on offense but it's going to take more time to gel.  The D lacks talent, overall.  DL is inconsistent and boneheaded (ala Barnett), LB's are marginal (at best) and Gannon is a liability.  Playoffs??  Playoffs??  😳

It making the playoffs is also not good.

It’s playoff experience win or lose.

We’ll make the playoffs, and it’s not just extra experience (which is valuable).

It helps us form a real team, a core moving forward.

Much rather have this over a few spots higher pick.

They go hand in hand.  A weak division may give us an extra W or 2 that we might not have otherwise, but we aren't going to win the division ... the Cowboys are clearly the team to beat.  That extra 1-2 wins we may get over the other NFCE teams may allow us to compete with those other NFC teams currently positioning for a WC spot (right now that would be the Saints and Panthers ... the Rams have the highest WC spot but it is highly unlikely we catch them).

Niners and Rams sure so but I wouldn't put Panthers up there. Unless Cam finds his form, the QB position is a huge problem for them.

The thing we have over most of the other teams though is our softer than Charmin schedule whereas these other teams will beat up on each other. There are only 5 of the 7 playoffs locked I think (Packers, Bucs, Cowboys, Cards, Rams)

The Eagles are quietly trending up.  The emphasis on the run has been a game changer (go figure) and Hurts is developing before our eyes.  Watching this team grow and hopefully contend for the postseason is the fun of being a fan.

You gotta be in it to win it.  Let's take it a week at a time but the Eagles seem  to have emerged from the early season disaster a better team.

Normally I’d agree, but when you have a rookie head coach, rookie coaching staff, and a young quarterback that could really develop into something. They’re already better than the 4 win team they were last year so that’s a plus. Also if they win out (not saying they will) this team will have a lot of confidence heading into the playoffs. They also so far this season has shown they can win on the road so I wouldn’t assume they are an easy out. Still that’s so far down the line it’s not worth thinking that far ahead. All I’m stating is if they make the playoffs and depending how they’re playing at that point you may feel differently.

We don’t really know what this team is yet. I hope they continue to be a dominant run team, because if they do that they can win in the NFL. Still Sirianni played so many games thinking Hurts needs to throw it 40 times a game or run RPO it just feels like at some point in time he’s going to revert back to being that guy. It’s just too soon to say what they are. I would rather they make the playoffs and root for the Dolphins and the Colts to just stink it up.

I dont trust our D enough to make it a possibility. A part of me wants to make it to the playoffs, but a part of me feels it would be better to have a better draft pick. But then the Howie factor comes into play

I've never understood the thought process that making the playoffs is a bad thing. I don't give a F how bad they get beat in the first round, getting to the playoffs breeds a winning culture especially with a young group of guys and coaches. Telling your team to lose to get a better pick is a slap in the face of the guys busting their ass to try and win games and play their best.

Players will never ever agree to that mentality, but I can understand in certain situations why people may not want their team not to win games especially if it hurts the teams draft position; however, this is not that year. The Eagles have plenty of draft capital so if anything everyone should want the playoffs. Not necessarily expect the playoffs, but definitely want the playoffs. I know some people want Howie fired so they think losing will make that happen, but it won’t so might as well root for this team to win out especially this season with no real expectations. Just enjoy the ride and hope for the best. I’ve been pretty encouraged from what I’ve seen from this team over the past three weeks. They have some very winnable games ahead and their a game out the playoff spot. If they beat the Saints they would own a tie breaker over like three teams in the playoff hunt. Not wanting the playoffs this year makes no sense.

I hear you, but this defense actually has been good against average to below average quarterbacks this year, and are there any quarterbacks (except Dak) who are coming up the rest of the season that really concern you?

Well that guy you responded to wants Wentz to win MVP and the super bowl so that is probably why he wants the eagles to lose lol. I doubt it's just for a better pick.

I say if you like early picks so much go be a lions or a jags fan!! They have been great for years with all those better picks!

Agreed. Seems pretty screwed up an "Eagles fan” wants the Cults to do better than his alleged team. Those beanbaggers sure do have their priorities all messed up. 😂
