My wife is leading a lot of training sessions as well as being involved in some business process discussions, and being able to see that people are engaged and attentive is important especially for the former. And while the claims that upwards of 90% of communication is non-verbal is nonsense pseudo-science, there is a lot of communication in body language and facial expressions that is missed on just a phone call. This can be a big deal. Finally, there's always the chance that your co-worker's hot wife will forget her husband's on a call and you'll catch a glimpse out of the shower. Sure, you risk a peek at Cindy's fat slob of a husband, but that risk may be worth it for some. (I'm of course joking on that last creepy one, but my wife has routinely forgotten that I sometimes have morning video calls and has almost done that multiple times. For core team meetings I actively encourage my team to use cameras. It's important for them to stay engaged. Anything outside of the organization we just use voice.
