Ill kick it off with this...I think conspiracy theories are BS, but some are just interesting enough to get you thinking twice. For instance, it’s believable that Keanu Reeves knows the whereabouts of the secret location of the Fountain of Youth.

Moon landing has always intrigued me as almost plausible.  Also "Holocaust denial" isn't as totally insane as the face value of the title suggests.

Maybe it was Roman Polanski. Then the CIA had a nut job asset (Manson) order the killing of his wife a couple weeks later to ensure he got the message to keep quiet. It worked. He lost his mind and dove heavily into drugs and rape...still on the run today. Some bet he gives a death bed confession about the Apollo movie he made back in '69.

Stalin’s Gorilla hybrid super soldier program was pretty insane, and again, very real.

Of unconfirmed conspiracies, I used to love the Aurora spy plane stuff.

I haven’t really followed it, but last I heard the origin for it (the line item in the black budget named "aurora” which was accidentally leaked and why it was known as the Aurora spy plane) was explained as being part of the B-2 program.

As far as the technology, the US government has been openly testing hypersonic vehicles/scramjet engines for years now, and a new SR-72 concept was released by Lockheed a while back.

As far as I know the "donuts on a rope” contrails and sonic booms have never been explained.

Keep in mind the "sightings" and just about everything else associated with Aurora date from 25 to 30 years ago.  It would be just about impossible to keep an aircraft like that secret for this long if it was used operationally, assuming it even existed.

I’m digging pretty deep into my memory here (like you said this stuff is from 25 years ago), but if I remember correctly there was a crash or two that people theorized was the Aurora, and the sightings/sonic booms stopped shortly after this. The thinking goes that the program was essentially scrapped because of the cost/danger combined with ubiquitous satellite coverage.

My thinking is that IF it existed, it was probably a prototype/demonstration type of aircraft. Likely just a handful of them were built, one or two were lost in crashes, the cost was exorbitant, and the technology wasn’t mature enough so it got canned.

Thinking back on the SR-71, a lot of defense analysts suspected the US was working on a high speed plane, but it was never actually confirmed before LBJ revealed it on the campaign trail. Could be a case that the Aurora was cancelled and just kept under wraps.
