hey suess Posted May 2, 2020 Posted May 2, 2020 In a previous life, I wore a suit and tie to work everyday. Down here, in Florida, that was a bit much considering slacks and a polo shirt is ‘“redneck formal”. Now I work in jeans and a t-shirt. For the past 25 years when I wasn’t in work, I wore baggies and flip-flops - my feet and back are turning against me now. To me, a comical fashion trend has been the men’s skinny jean. I watched a guy in a pair of blue-ballers try to bend over and pick up some sod last weekend, it was comedy gold, Jerry! Do you have a passion for fashion?
paco Posted May 2, 2020 Posted May 2, 2020 Now that we are under lockdown, I change my hoodie once a week 1

It's not bad, so long as you go from your air conditioned house to your air conditioned car to your air conditioned work.

Green_Guinness Posted May 3, 2020 Posted May 3, 2020 ^^^Looks like the one on Route 30/White Horse Pike just outside Hammonton. I used to work in that area so drove past it regularly for some years.

JohnB Posted May 4, 2020 Posted May 4, 2020 I wore suits to work for years. I actually still love suits, but these days it's slacks & polo style shirt
iladelphxx Posted May 5, 2020 Posted May 5, 2020 I worked in Inside Sales for an IT Reseller so had a bunch of Polos/button down shirts and Khakis. Then I got a Field Sales job with a competitor and had to buy a bunch of blazers and dress pants. Then I took a job with an IT Consultancy who wanted everybody to wear suits and ties, so I bought a bunch of suits, ties, expensive dress shoes, etc. Now, I work from home full time and don't wear 90% of the clothes in my closet, but I spent so much freaking money on them that I don't want to get rid of them 1 1

Sell them. or there are charities that specifically collect suits for young people out of college. Good tax write off

I wear suits to work and I bought every one on eBay. I picked up a $1500 hickey Freeman for like $30. If you're looking for a good suit for cheap just keep an eBay watchlist with your size and go for the good brands with a full canvas (Hickey Freeman, some lines of Brooks Brothers, etc) and you can find some steals. Then go get them tailored. Honestly though a tailored cheap suit looks exponentially better than an I'll fitting expensive suit. Goodwill and Salvation Army are good if you want some cheap dress shirts that are decent quality. Or every now and again Brooks Brothers does a 4 for $200 sale on shirts (not sure how them looking to be bought out is going to affect them). Or if you are @vikas83 or @TEW you just pull out the AMEX and get bespoke shirts and suits.

Zegna and Brooks Brothers -- I never wear the BB ones though.
MR-CYN Posted May 5, 2020 Posted May 5, 2020 I honestly think I'd just go to Mens' Warehouse before I did eBay or Goodwill. And I love me some eBay but used clothes are just mostly gross. You have to wonder, did they take them off a dead guy to save money and pay for a funeral maybe? Do they come with a black light? So many questions. 👀 Not everyone can afford Armani, Vuitton, Boss, who cares? Just be clean. 1
OCEaglefan Posted May 5, 2020 Posted May 5, 2020 Don’t go clothing shopping on an AMEX, at best you’re getting 1% on those purchases

No dead guy smell. 10 minutes ago, OCEaglefan said: Don’t go clothing shopping on an AMEX, at best you’re getting 1% on those purchases 1 1
OCEaglefan Posted May 5, 2020 Posted May 5, 2020 I prefer Jos a bank to men’s wearhouse at that general price point

Or if you are @vikas83 or @TEW you just pull out the AMEX and get bespoke shirts and suits. If you are looking for excellent quality at a reasonable price, there are (or were, I haven’t done this in a while) a few companies out of Hong Kong that will send a tailor to your home and make custom suits for you. And when I say custom, I mean they will make it from scratch for you. You pick the fabrics, linings, etc. and they take your measurements and notes on exactly how you want it to fit. They source their textiles from all of the same places as major designers. Usually the suits only cost a few hundred bucks a pop. Dress shirts are like 70, again, completely custom down to the button placement. The only catch is they usually have a high minimum order. It’s a fun thing to do when you’re young and need some quality pieces. Get some good friends together with whiskey and cigars, the rep/tailor brings over all of the fabric samples and a catalogue showing examples, and everyone orders a bunch of stuff. No need to slum it on EBay or Salvation Army. It’ll cost about the same and you’ll have brand new bespoke clothing. 1
