Captain F Posted December 30, 2021 Posted December 30, 2021 The 2011 Giants.. A team with multiple above average players but no real superstar. A defense that is improving right on schedule into the playoffs after a horrible start. And an offense that can control the clock by pounding the rock and the ability to pass the ball when needed. Play strong defense. Control the clock with the run game. Pray. 3

Mortimer Posted December 30, 2021 Posted December 30, 2021 Looking forward to Reagor's helmet catch. 1 16

Would rather see Watkins get more playing time. He certainly warrants it but the eagles have a hard time playing production over draft position. The JJ pick and Reagor are monumental blunders by the front office (and reason enough for howie to be banished again). Particularly Reagor since we could/should have Justin Jefferson (the consensus pick for the birds at their draft position) who already is one of the best WR's in the game and then Devonte Smith on the other side. We would be set for a long time instead. Got off track here, still pissed about the bungled drafting.

We have been playing crap teams which we all knew would happen when the schedule dropped. Any avg to good team will show the massive weakness to this defensive scheme. There is zero comparison to the 2011 Giants. 4 1
Thrive Posted December 30, 2021 Posted December 30, 2021 Still don’t understand how this is apparently the number 1 defense in the NFC since week 8. Obviously we’ve played some horrid offenses but this isn’t the first time a team has played a last place schedule either.
Portyansky Posted December 30, 2021 Posted December 30, 2021 Defense carried them. I don't think our D is anything near that. But our running game is superior and will be our best defense. 1
LacesOut Posted December 30, 2021 Posted December 30, 2021 This team will get raked in the playoffs. I don't remember the 2011 Giants beating up on bad, awful, non-existent NFL QB play, like our Iggles have been doing. 3

Until I see this D and Gannon's scheme have any success against a top 12 QB, then I can't see how we can make serious noise in the playoffs. 2

Obviously Jefferson was available and if he had the same impact on the Eagles as he did on the Vikings as a rookie, Wentz and Doug would still be here and we wouldn't have had a pick before the giants last year, nor would we have had as big a reason to trade up to get Smith. 2

Plache Posted December 31, 2021 Posted December 31, 2021 The defense is the biggest concern - they haven't faced a good offense in a month - which is why the defense has looked better. The other concern is the coaching staff continually trying to throw the ball in the 1st half before realizing at halftime that they have to run the ball before they even think about throwing. That all being said - I'm still happy with the way the season is turning out - this team show a ton of heart. Maybe they can build on this season and give us a good team for the next 5-7 years..........

It's not even that it's a last place schedule though, it's that every team we have beaten is in the bottom third of the league in offense and has been unusually banged up/struck with Covid. Seriously, look at the QBs we've beaten: Ryan Goff Darnold Siemien Wilson Fromm Bridgewater Gilbert 2

pallidrone Posted December 31, 2021 Posted December 31, 2021 This team reminds me of the 2009 Philadelphia Eagles. Played uninspired ball all year. Went on a win streak towards the end of the schedule and got the last seed in the playoffs. Everyone thought they might make a run. Ended the year in Dallas where they lost to them 0-24. Had to play Dallas in the first round of the playoffs and a lot of people thought they may make a run at it and it was hard for a team to play the same team twice in a row and win. They then played Dallas in the first round of the playoffs where they lost 34-14. Let's at least hope that if they do make it in, that it ends with a better result then last time.
EazyEaglez Posted December 31, 2021 Posted December 31, 2021 Let’s see what this team can do when they have to face a real offensive team. They have been brutal in the past against good to great quarterbacks. They have been playing some joke signal callers lately.

Uscg-green Posted January 1, 2022 Posted January 1, 2022 We have a "strong" defense because we have played against bottom of the barrel QBs on bad teams. 4
mihailo Posted January 1, 2022 Posted January 1, 2022 Very few predicted this level of success the Eagles have had this "rebuilding" year. The fact that this is a discussion at all is credit to their achievement no matter how far they go from here on out. 1

Yeah except we wont have to watch the pregame mcnabb banjo dance at least. Unless minshew somehow starts who knows with that goofball
opa-opa Posted January 1, 2022 Posted January 1, 2022 Actually this team reminds me of any of the other mediocre Eagles teams that somehow snuck into the playoffs only to be embarrassed in the first round.
