January 3, 20223 yr It's almost certain he will play soft and scared to start the playoffs. And that sucks. I just wish he would have the balls Siri has from start to finish. Even if we give up a big play every now and then. We'd be a better defense.

And if he plays soft from the start this team are going to be in a huge hole that they can't climb out of. My prediction whoever we play is we will be down 3 scores at least by halftime. The offense will rally in the second half and the score will be closer by the end. As we have seen in every single game against good teams this year.

I don't know why in the US its known as soccer though. And as I've said the stats are misleading. There are like six sports that are considered to be ‘football’: soccer, American football, rugby league, rugby union, Australian rules football, and Gaelic football. Apparently, back in the old days they used the term ‘football’ to distinguish sports that were played on foot from those played on horseback 😆. As far as for soccer. The word apparently comes from the term "association football”. In the UK, for a while, that’s what they referred to it as to distinguish it from the other forms of "football”. The term gained traction, spread to North America, and then in the UK they changed their minds and went back to calling it football. Meanwhile, in North America they just continued calling it soccer.

We have American football, football, gaelic football and Aussie rules football. We call rugby, rugby. There are 2 kinds of rugby there is rugby union (mostly in the south where I am and is the main form in the UK) and there is rugby league (mostly up north).

But if you notice, they use the term football in rugby, too. This is just the first team I searched. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leeds_Rhinos Check out their full name: The Leeds Rhinos Rugby League Football Club. I don’t really know the difference between the two forms of rugby(I know rugby union has less players). And I definitely don’t know anything about Gaelic football or Aussie rules football, lol.

Union has more players actually. 15 in Union, 13 in league. Yes you are right it is Rugby Football. Essentially we use football to determine any sport you use your feet in. The irony is... American football uses very little in terms of your feet. Only 2 players on the team really.

And why soccer is referred to as soccer in North America, but football most places? I learned this over the last couple years. Soccer comes from association football, which is to differentiate from rugby football. Over here, as UK says, we just call it football. And rugby is just, well, rugby. And just to confuse you even more, there are 2 rugby codes, league and Union 😀 Ah, I see UK just explained it 👍
January 3, 20223 yr Anyway, back on topic. Once the playoffs start, hope they get more aggressive. No point going down meekly, just give it a right go.
January 3, 20223 yr It would be nice to see Gannon be more aggressive. Nearly lost the game yesterday on the last drive when he went passive. I am not saying you need to go all out every down but just watching some of the cowboys/cards game the cards had quite a few injuries on defense yet appeared to bring a 5th guy frequently on their rush and it had a huge effect Prescott. When we play the slightly above average (cowboys) teams to the really good teams Gannons passiveness will be hard to win with. They need to find a way to not end up in a hole after the first quarter of what seems like every game. That issue I lay on the coaches and not talent.
January 3, 20223 yr Even the best defense gets lit up by a good offense. Sure though, let's throw a fit because they almost gave up more points but, didn't because the defense made the stop.. makes sense

I don't think most consider Washington a good offense but they managed to have I think just one incomplete pass the first half against the eagles outside of spiking the ball before the half. That type of completion rate has happened multiple times this season though and not all from elite offenses. It's great the defense finally played well enough to get the W in the second half but it was still the WFT.

I completely understand we haven't played very good teams but, he is at least doing what he is supposed to do with the bad teams and shutting them down. I'm not saying he is doing great by any means. I just think with being young and a first time d coordinator and some of the talent I think he is doing ok. Yesterday just wasn't the kind of game I think Gannon should be getting grief for. This is a fan base that loses their sheet over every damn score givin up. Even the best defenses in today's game get lit up pretty good and dominate the bad teams. I also see the same people that didn't want Schwartz here anymore are the same going off about Gannon. They clearly are unrealistic

They clearly are unrealistic I agree, and against Washington this defense didn’t allow a point and sealed the game with an interception (by getting a pressure 😂) so to me that says they adjusted. How many times did people complain how Schwartz never made second half adjustments? On top of that they only gave up one touchdown and basic half WFT to field goals. All those scoring drives and Washington was only up 2 by the half. For all this talk about who they beat quarterback wise well these are still divisional opponents. Teams that know one another well and always tend to be close games. The bottom line is like you mentioned Gannon is a young coordinator so he’s going to make some mistakes. Nevertheless he got his team to the playoffs.

I love that a lot about Siri. So I'm not worried about it cause Nick will rip him a new one if he doesn't keep it together.

Far too quick to make judgments is this fan base. I remember Chip’s defense under Davis. They made nearly every quarterback look elite. They were near the bottom statistically almost every season. People want to dump this guy and next thing you know we have Juan back.
January 3, 20223 yr Can't sit back. Going to have to mix up his coverages and bring some pressure at times. The teams now are too good to give the QB all day. Time for Gannon to earn his spurs.

Every time a RB gets past the DL you're looking at a substantial gain, once a RB gets past the DL he's supposed to be greeted with a bone crushing hit by a LB, those scrubs we have out there now show up 5-6 yards past the LOS. Every time we attempt to send a LB after the QB he's stoned, they don't even flush the QB out the pocket. Bottom line, LBs set the tone for the defense, they're usually the heart and soul of a defense, it beats the hell out of me who the leader of our defense is because we don't have one.

Yup and despite the cancer that was Washburn Castillo still finished statistically with better defense than McDermott and bowels whom both had same players, which is a testament to him as a coach and person.

Yup, Parsons would have fit perfectly in Gannon's defense and could have been a focal point of the defense, instead Howie needed to invest in WR again because he flopped at that position the previous two drafts Can you imagine this team with Justin Jefferson and Micha Parsons instead? To be fair I thought pre draft Jefferson was just a slot and on the other hand I thought Parsons was the best player in the draft but knew Howie would never use a high draft pick on a LB☹️

Well in all fairness bowels and McDermott got thrown into a fire. McDermott got promoted to d-coordinator unexpectedly with the passing of JJ and Bowles was thrown in the middle of the season after the Juan and Washburn blow up.

Juan was a great coach, but he was a far better OL coach. I know why Andy did what he did (he was trying to drop Juan a well deserved bone and get him and eventual coaching job), but ultimately it made Juan look bad, and the team as a whole was a disaster.
