January 12, 20223 yr The Eagles are an underdog and rightly so. They are the 7th seed in the conference, would not be in the playoffs without the expanded field, and are playing against a team that is the defending champs, with the GOAT at QB, who took them out behind the woodshed in their own stadium in the regular season. I am shocked the line is only 8/12, should be 10 or 11.
January 12, 20223 yr The OP seems to be focusing his argument around the fact that we’re underdogs just like we were in 2017. Well, 5 other teams are also underdogs. Does the same logic apply to all of them also that it’s some great motivator and we could expect 6 upsets?
January 13, 20223 yr All good. Would rather be having this conversation that a conversation about off season matters for the Eagles.

I hope you're on here Sunday after the game to give me your insight on how the GOAT took them to the woodshed again....

Well, 5 other teams are also underdogs. Does the same logic apply to all of them also that it’s some great motivator and we could expect 6 upsets? Let me make it easier for you. What I said was that the Eagles being underdogs helps motivate them. WIP, a local Eagles talk radio stated that Lane Johnson was seen in the Nova Care walking around with the dog head on, which was used during the 2017 season. In every game, there's an underdog if you use the point spread. It happens all season and in the post season. If or how each team uses the underdog status is anyone's guess. I can't generalize for all the teams that it's a great motivator and will lead to 6 upsets. I think you're better at embellishing that point then I am.

January 13, 20223 yr Author Score was 28-14 at the end of the 3rd quarter. I doubt Arians thought the game was won with an entire quarter to go.

The theme of their season was based on being the underdogs. The team was saddled with injuries, lost their starting QB, and the next man up mantra along with dog masks carried the team to victory. Is there something in my borough's water or does this team have a little of the same swagger/feel to them? Call me crazy, but this team, playing with house money, could make some noise in the post season..... I don't know if the Eagles are going to win this game, but I dig your optimism. We are playing with house money anyways. Might as well just enjoy the show. Either way i feel like this game is going to be closer than people think.

It would mean that week 2 game would turn out to be the difference in who hosted it. Had Eagles won that game, Eagles would be playing Cowboys and Saints (superior conference record to 49ers) would be playing Buccaneers this weekend

I fully agree that the Eagles are seeded where they belong and that the point spread is probably accurate. My whole point during this discussion was that Sirianni can or will use the underdog label as a motivator. To me, and in my opinion, this Eagle team is greatly improved from what the Bucs saw back in October.

This team has exceeded expectations.
January 13, 20223 yr Underdogs? Yes. Play it up? No need. This is one of those games that I don't know what to really think. The spread seems right on to me from what he have seen, but I am not counting the Eagles out with the running game.

Actually there was one player greater than the unit during the playoffs that year. They built a statue to honor him. but I get what your saying.

Does the same logic apply to all of them also that it’s some great motivator and we could expect 6 upsets? Not only that, but the main driver of the 2017 underdog status was when Wentz got hurt and they finished the #1 seed at 13-3, they were picked to lose all the games. They felt they were still a strong #1 seed regardless. This team barely made the playoffs with some end of year scenarios, beating weak teams, some backup QBs and they overachieved based on last year's 4 wins, new coach and all. This team is an underdog in the traditional sense, the lowest seed. They deserve the playoff seeding and expectations. In the past they've had great stories and been underdogs and still failed. Buddy Ryan's team never won a playoff game. They had the #1 defense in all 3 categories one year and did nothing. Reid's teams were on the cusp so often. The year Tampa won, everyone thought the Eagles were "destined" because it was the last game at the Vet, they had previously beat the Bucs many times in the playoffs, the Bucs never won in temperature over 40 degrees...and that didn't matter.

Every time we've faced a good team we have lost and in a lot of those games it hasn't been close.
