By Brandon Lee Gowton@BrandonGowton May 5, 2020, 8:08am EDT Bill Streicher-USA TODAY Sports Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles links ... Carson Speaks - Iggles Blitz Dave Spadaro on Alshon Jeffery: "The plan is for Alshon Jeffery to be a major part of the offense as he recovers from his Lisfranc injury. He has to complete his rehab, of course, and Jeffery is in the course of doing so. The Eagles have made sure this offseason to get the word out that Jeffery is being counted on and Roseman has had conversations to that extent with having No. 17 in the picture. A healthy and fully focused and hungry Jeffery would be a huge boost for the offense. He eats up defensive backs and the Eagles are fully aware that the last complete game Jeffery played was at Miami, on December 1, and he caught nine passes for 137 passes and a touchdown. He was dominating. Having Jeffery back all the way is an important piece in the offensive puzzle for 2020.” Is this legit? Will Alshon Jeffery be part of the offense in 2020? All 32 teams read the sites of the other teams. They have to decipher what is legit and what is propaganda. The Eagles are trying to sell the idea that Jeffery is valuable to them so they can trade him for something. That’s the smart thing to do. I just don’t know that they’ll be able to pull it off. Is there a small chance the team does want Jeffery back? I guess, but it sure doesn’t feel that way. This comes across as a sales job. And I hope it works. 6 things to know about new Eagles veteran speedster Marquise Goodwin - BGN 3 - What are Goodwin’s strengths? Anything beyond just speed? Goodwin will make defenses respect his speed. He’s not just fast; he’s Olympic-level fast. Goodwin hinted at trying out for the 2020 Olympics during the summer of 2019. He also won the NFL’s 40 yards of Gold, which went to the fastest player in the league. He would have had better numbers had Jimmy G not underthrown Goodwin on a few routes last season. Other than speed, there isn’t much else he brought to the 49ers, but that doesn’t mean Philly can’t get more out of Marquise. At the Podium: Carson Wentz Speaks - BGN RadioCarson Wentz speaks to the media for the first time after the 2020 NFL Draft and answers questions about his feelings on the Jalen Hurts selection, the addition of weapons to the offense and more! Powered by SB Nation and Bleeding Green Nation. Mailbag: The 2020 Eagles ‘hindsight’ draft - PhillyVoice There are different ways that can be analyzed, in terms of fitting skill set to position. By that I mean the top receiver who fits the typical "X” position traits who will definitely be on the 2020 roster is J.J. Arcega-Whiteside, but the Eagles obviously shouldn’t just hand him a starting job. The top "Z” receivers are DeSean Jackson and Jalen Reagor, but Reagor isn’t just going to be a backup to Jackson if he shows he can play, and Jackson sure as hell isn’t riding the bench if he’s healthy. Ultimately, I think they’ll put the best three receivers on the field. As such, I think the camp battle to watch in that sense is Arcega-Whiteside vs. Ward. If Arcega-Whiteside earns a starting role, then maybe it looks like this: X: Arcega-Whiteside, Z: Jackson, Slot: Reagor. Decoding Carson Wentz: What stood out as QB talks Jalen Hurts, Eagles offseason - The Athletic The very nature of the questions Monday underscored how the Eagles addressed the offense this offseason. There were questions about the Jalen Hurts addition, yes, but one of the early questions was about the changes to the offensive coaching staff. If the Eagles acquired DeAndre Hopkins or Stefon Diggs, those players would have been the dominant topics. Instead, Wentz discussed Hurts and senior offensive assistant Rich Scangarello. (To be fair, the Eagles used their first-round pick on Reagor. He’s a major addition.) 2020 NFL draft picks who landed with the perfect teams: 10 rookies to watch - ESPN+ Jalen Reagor, WR, Philadelphia Eagles (Pick No. 21). Clay’s 2020 projections: 52 catches on 84 targets for 646 yards and five TDs; 147 fantasy points. Reagor brings instant juice to an Eagles offense that last season averaged a league-low 6.5 yards per target on passes to wide receivers. With explosive-play traits and vertical stretch ability, coach Doug Pederson will scheme up deep-ball opportunities and use Reagor on crossers and over routes. But don’t forget about Reagor seeing slot targets in this offense. That’s where Carson Wentz can target the TCU product on quick game throws and run-pass option concepts. There are going to be catch-and-run opportunities for him, in addition to the jet sweeps, screens and reverses Pederson can call to manufacture even more touches for Reagor. Those are high-efficiency plays that allow Wentz to get the ball quickly out of his hands. What Eagles WRs coach Aaron Moorehead likes most about Jalen Reagor - NBCSP "I think the first thing you see is he’s an explosive guy,” Moorehead said. "He’s got those physical freaky traits and you see that with him. But you definitely saw the explosion and speed. That was evident with some of the early clips I saw and as we got digging we saw some of the other things that make him special.” John Lynch Goes Inside the 49ers’ Blueprint to Get Back to the Super Bowl - MMQB 7) Jason Peters is still out there. And two AFC West teams with designs on contending—the Broncos and Chargers—are still in dire straits at left tackle. Denver has a former first-round pick (Garrett Bolles) who was on the block pre-draft, had his fifth-year option declined, and now will battle Elijah Wilkinson for the job. Wilkinson, a UMass product whom I had to Google, was undrafted the year Bolles came out. The Chargers, meanwhile, may be in an even more precarious position, with Sam Tevi and Trey Pipkins as contenders to start there. To me, that’s enough in each case to make the phone call to Peters, who is 38, and isn’t what he was, but can still play. Peters isn’t going to come cheap, but the Broncos have $24.2 million in cap space, and the Chargers have $21.0 million, and I think it’d be worth spending a chunk of that to create another option at a pretty important spot. The only issue? The only issue is the Eagles may have designs on bringing Peters back, so Denver and/or L.A. would have to move quickly. Breaking down NFC East odds following the 2020 NFL Draft - DraftKings Nation The Eagles lost Malcolm Jenkins in the secondary, but gained Darius Slay and Nickell Robey-Coleman and together, that makes for a win. And when you consider the Cowboys added CeeDee Lamb to an already strong passing game, they needed an upgrade to compete. Adding receiver Jalen Reagor in the first round of the draft along with some other speed guys at wide receiver like Marquise Goodwin and a healthy DeSean Jackson, they should be able to open up their offense much more than last season. The drop in odds doesn’t make a lot of sense to me and I see this as being a neck and neck race for the division. The Andy Dalton signing shows the Cowboys front office is gearing up for big things in 2020 - Blogging The Boys If for some reason Prescott misses a game for the first time ever, the team now has a fighting chance as Dalton has enough ability to exploit his fantastic offensive weapons behind a fantastic offensive line to help this team win football games. He’s got your back, Dak. The front office is reinvesting their big money into their stars, just like they’ve always done. Their ability to draft well allows them to replace more costly free agent losses with inexpensive rookie deals. Again, business as usual for Big D. What’s different this year is the team is actually spending a little bit of money picking and choosing some valuable commodities to shore up this roster. They’re not breaking the bank by any means, but they are dabbling and you have to love the effort the team is making with these roster decisions. It’s been one heckuva offseason for the Cowboys. New York Giants’ 2020 NFL schedule: 5 storylines to look forward to - Big Blue View Odell’s back. The Cleveland Browns will come to MetLife Stadium to face the Giants, which means Odell Beckham Jr. will perform in front of Giants fans for the first time since the team decided they were better off without him and shipped him to Cleveland. It’s going to be interesting to see how Beckham is greeted by Giants fans. Not to mention what sort of celebration Beckham will cook up if he happens to score a touchdown. Possible 2020 Trade Candidates for the Redskins - Hogs HavenRyan Kerrigan: New head coach Ron Rivera values high character and solid veteran leadership (hence the signing of former Panther Thomas Davis). Selfishly, I would love to see Kerrigan retire a Redskin, but we all know and understand that this is a business. The Redskins spent back-to-back first round draft picks on EDGE, and now have a very crowded room with Kerrigan, Montez Sweat, Chase Young, Ryan Anderson, Nate Orchard, Jordan Brailford and James Smith-Williams. Kerrigan, who will be 32 this summer, is in the final year of his contract, and will carry a base salary of $11.5M. He could really help a contender who is in need of a solid presence on the edge, and who would be willing to give him a short-term contract extension. This is something worth monitoring during the season as well, especially if a team’s starting edge rusher were to go down with a significant injury. Possible Compensation: 3rd or 4th round pick.
