He could be on the trading block. Discuss....

We could trade Jalen Hurts for him straight up.

I specifically came to this section to see if this topic would be here.  Thankfully, I'm rarely disappointed here.

Not sure who would be willing to take him on in a trade. I'm sure a QB needy team could consider him if he is released and signs a prove-it deal as a free agent.

The Colts had a pretty good set up for Wentz: an elite OL, an elite RB in Jonathan Taylor (and solid receiving back in Nyheim Hines) , and a talented young WR in Michael Pittman Jr.

He doesn't have the elite TE he had with us, but still plenty of weapons to go around. Maybe another team gives him a shot, but I doubt it's us.

Colts Oline was overrated, Nelson had an up and down season coming from his injury, guys like Fisher and Matt Pryor etc were terrible when pass protecting.. However they should have beaten the Jagz...

Still happy with the return Eagles got for Wentz but man he should have been traded right after Eagles won the superbowl for a KINGS RANSOM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Eagles could have pulled of a Herschel Walker type trade.....

What are the salary cap implications of trading for Carson Wentz?

Is he already on our cap for a portion of his salary?

Colts shouldn't give up so quickly. Their Oline wasn't healthy. It's not like he had horrible stats

Eagles fans love to hate on the guy who was part of our SB run

The Colts are quitters.

Gonna give away Wentz at discount.

(Okay, I'll come clean. I have a #11 Wentz jersey. I'm a little biased.)

I looked up Wentz' contract on Spotrac.

2022   $28mil

2023   $26mil

2024   $27mil

I thought it was a fun idea to trade for him, but I dont know how he fits under the cap.

Just wait until the Colts release him, pick him up on the cheap, and release Hurts

He was signed to finally get them over the hump and yet put up less yards than a rag armed Rivers taking one last shot with the same players at the offensive skill positions.

He's a guy who has consistently failed to kick on from his early promise, he hit his ceiling early and hit it hard, but by and large he doesn't turn the bll over much so as has been said he probably gets one last shot on a cheap prove it deal, but nobody's paying $26million a year for 3500 yards passing unless the guy puts up RB level rushing stats on top.

Can you imagine how much money we'd have to pay him to get him back to Philadelphia? He might retire rather than face our fans and media again.

I'm no Wentz lover, but in my view the Colts would be stupid to cut ties with Wentz at this stage.

He had a very similar season to Hurts and wasn't nearly as bad as some people make out.

But people also need to accept 2017 Wentz is gone. He's a solid starting QB in the 15-20 range. You can win with him, but he's not going to put a team on his back and is still prone to costly errors, trying to make plays that aren't there.

Wentz and the Eagles are absolutely done though. No way I want him back and no way he would come back.

Dave Zangaro mentioned on his podcast there must be something going on behind the scenes in Indy; Wentz wasn’t so bad on the field that they should want to cut bait after one season.  I’m inclined to believe that’s the case.

The Colts started the season on a bad note with COVID, having the least number of vaccinated players in the league.  Wentz refused to get vaccinated and very nearly missed an important game because of it.  I’m still shocked that starting NFL QBs went unvaccinated, knowing what had happened with the Broncos the year before.  It’s possible his attitude rubs some important people the wrong way.

When the owner comes out and says they need to upgrade the position and the GM says "we thought it was a good move at the time” that bodes really poorly for a return.

People complain about Hurts' accuracy ... Wentz is no better.  Doesn't throw guys open / throw with anticipation.  Biggest difference is ... Wentz has started for 6 seasons ... Hurts just finished his first as a starter.  Oh and Wentz is chewing up a much larger portion of Indy's salary cap.

Yep - exactly this. And the irony is that most of the Hurts haters on this board are Wentz lovers and blast Hurts for a lot of the same issues that Wentz had.

Wentz is who he is at this point. Hurts might get better. And as he isn't costing us anything, it doesn't hurt to find out next year, particularly with the limited alternatives.
