Devonte Wyatt (Georgia DT) -- DRAFTED BY GREEN BAY #28

I know that Jordan Davis grabbed the Combine headlines, but for me, this guy screams 'Eagles DT'. 

Loved his easy, economy of movement and unlike Davis, his motor never stops. 

Similar build to Kenny Clark, who has a couple of Pro-Bowls under his belt with Green Bay. Athletically, Wyatt compares very favourably to Clark:-

No, I'm NOT suggesting he can be Aaron Donald 2.0, but there is a passing resemblance.

Cox is on borrowed time now, and it's time another premium pick is spent on the trenches. 

Get Wyatt, Jermaine Johnson and a CB in R1, and the D is starting to get a well overdue make-over.

i know everyone makes mistakes and the case was dismissed but i’ve heard there are some character concerns.

I'm relatively certain that if he's still around between 15-19 he will end up an eagle. Just seems like the kind of player we'd target

I would be cool with Wyatt if davis is off the board already. Both have a ton of upside but davis is an athletic freak.

I would be thrilled with Johnson and Wyatt with 15 and 16 and then Booth with 19.

Can’t see Johnson falling that far.

Instead I’d probably take Karlaftis if Johnson is off the board.

But would you be happy with Karlaftis? I just mean in terms of his quality and what he could bring to this team long term. And this is the issue the Eagles have. They have a lot of early picks but the way the board may fall may not work for them at all.

Don’t believe everyone around here. Karlaftis might not have a good bend but he’s strong as a bull and a pretty good edge setter. No doubt in my mind he’s worth a top 20 pick.

Even if the board doesn’t exactly shake out the way they’d like to, there’ll definitely be good prospects available.

They could always make a slight jump up if someone like Johnson or Walker fall to 11 or 12 like they did last year for Smith.  But I don't think it is impossible he is there at 15 either.  Players I think will go top 14:

Hutch, Hamilton, Neal, Thibodeaux, Davis, Stingley, Gardner, Ekwomu, and then possibly Linderbaum, Cross, Olave, Wilson, plus I believe we'll see 2-3 QBs go before 15 as well.

Yeah see that lack of bend and being a good edge setter sort of worries me. To me that screams of a player who will not be a bust in the NFL but who's not going to stand out either. A good solid pro. We've had a few of those with nothing more.

I’m with you … there’s just something that I can’t quite put my finger on that makes me feel he’ll be an OK player but nothing special (basically like the kind of player Howie usually gets in round one - hoping for more and to hit on someone who will be more of a playmaker for a change).

Exactly! 

At 15, 16 and 19 the "elite” prospects will be off the board. Getting good, solid players in that range is good enough for me.

Unless they want to trade up for a specific guy, these are the type of prospects who we have a shot at. The Wyatt’s, Karlaftis’s, Olave’s, Burks’’s, Elam’s, Booth’s of this World.

I think Howie will trade up down and all around.  This offseason has been way too cookie cutter so far. Doubt it will continue through the draft.

Armed with as many picks as he has, I think it is almost a certainty that he trades up a few spots from 15 to grab a player he wants.  I just don’t think it will be with another 1 … more likely with our 3rd like last year when we moved up for Smith.

Agreed, he's going to want to come away with a premium player especially since he'll like trade a 1 later. Would be lame to get the 3rd best DE and 3rd best CB regardless of the eventual results which won't be known for a while obviously

But that's where you can look at a guy who is perhaps a little more raw but has that real upside. Sometimes you have to take the solid guy, other times you have to take a small gamble.

True but on who exactly would you take a gamble on? Ojabo? Not in the first I guess?

On topic: Do you think Wyatt is a good pick at where we select players in the first? I read some of you do but still feels like a reach to me..

A bit of a reach IMO.

Rather take him in that 20-30 range. Older guy too at 24. Like him a lot but I don’t necessarily view him as a top 15 prospects.
