Linebacker Alex Singleton wasn’t set to become an unrestricted free agent this week, but it looks like that’s where things are heading.

Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that the Eagles will not issue a restricted free agent tender to Singleton. If he doesn’t re-sign before Wednesday afternoon, he’ll hit the open market.

Singleton was undrafted out of Montana State in the NFL, but he was a first-round pick in the CFL and spent three seasons with Calgary before joining the Eagles in 2019. He played exclusively on special teams in 10 games that year before taking on a defensive role in the last two seasons.

Singleton recorded 257 tackles, two sacks, two interceptions that were both returned for touchdowns, a forced fumble, and three fumble recoveries in 32 appearances over the last two years. Of course this was posted in the rumor mill so take it however you wish.

Excluding Reddick who’s a bit of a hybrid, the sense I have is he is seen as #3 on the pecking order at LB behind Edwards and Taylor. And they will add this off-season so I can see them being cost conscious on him

Well is it that much of a loss if another team actually signed him. 10 tackles in a game is fine, but not when you’re being dragged five yards down the field for half of them and none of them are tackles for losses.

knew they wouldn’t just like a few others not worth what it cost to tender them if they can bring them back cheaper might happen and if not oh well good luck in the future

His coverage skills are atrocious. Like his attitude but we can do better. Ideally, he’s a backup/ST player.

Fun guy to root for but was clearly overmatched most of this year. Best of luck.

I like Alex. He has a non stop motor. Is always around the ball if not making the tackle himself. He can only get better, but we shouldn't pay him big money.

99% of the folks here continually criticized the LB group here for being really bad (rightfully so).  So even if they don't bring him back cheaper than the lowest tender amount, no one should lose any sleep over it.

I've been sick of watching Singleton tackle players over the line to gain for pretty much his entire career to date, he's at best the third linebacker on our roster which means even if NFL.com did a 100 best players of the year composed entirely of linebackers, Singleton probably doesn't make it in.

Rueben is spot on.  Why pay him 2.4m when you can pay him $1m if you even want him back?  No team is giving him more than that.

Who gets run over, takes crap angles and tackles guys 8 yards downfield.  He’s a special teamer, plain and simple.  He’s such a baller that they let his ass walk.   Moron.

The bar is so low at LB that someone actually hustling and making tackles --  after the receiver has already got the 1st down -- is celebrated.

They prioritize D line and corner which is fine, but they don't invest high picks or more adequate free agents at LB. And it shows.

Then they go from hot garbage to a couple guys who seem ok, and they think they're fine there.
