Same, but I know in other districts it's larger, like around a mile or so. Where I grew up, I think it was at least 3 neighborhoods around the school. Not sure on the distance, but it was a decent amount of kids and required quite a few crossing guards. My cousins moved in 3rd grade and had to walk for a few years. Point is, it happened in the 90's and still does in many areas today.
March 17, 20223 yr Looks like about 10%. Less than I thought, but still enough that this could cause issues. I don't care all that much either way, but would be curious to see what happens if a few kids start getting hit by cars after they make this change. The findings suggest a dramatic decline in children walking to school. Over 85 percent of people’s parents walked to school, but only 61 percent of respondents say they walked to school. And they report that only 10 percent of their children walk to school today. https://www.planetizen.com/news/2019/03/103353-kids-still-arent-walking-school

March 17, 20223 yr My mother walked me to elementary school a few times, until I was more confident of doing it myself. I started walking to school in First Grade, by myself. Of course the school was down the street and around the corner. Not very far. Lot's of kids walked or rode a bus. I was too close to ride the bus to elementary or middle school. I guess now, kids who live that close are driven by their parents instead, of making them walk.

What was the, weather like when you walked to school? What, did you do when you got to Ninth, Grade? Did you alrea'dy have your driver's, license after being held back 3 time's?

I either walked or road my bike from 6th grade until I graduated. (something, something, back in my day...) A lot more kids do seem to get driven these days by their parents, even those that can ride the bus it seems. It's honestly ridiculous and creates major traffic jams getting to school in the morning. I live close to the school, but if I don't leave early, I'll get stuck crawling along at 3 MPH for 15 minutes just to get in the damn parking lot. End of day is a nightmare with lines of cars wrapped through intersections and blocking parking spaces.
March 17, 20223 yr My wife would drive the kids if it was really cold or ishy weather. Other than that, let them little F'ers walk IMO.
March 17, 20223 yr Poor kids who walk to school or take the bus will be killed off? I now support this measure.

I got my driver's license before I turned 16. Anything else? Being held back? Funny.
March 17, 20223 yr My wife complains about the shitshow that is parent pick-up at our school every single day

Driving your kids if they get a bus is just ridiculous. I think since I moved and they now get bussed, I may have driven each of them 2 or 3 times, after the two big snowstorms we got the bus stop was a mess and I didn't want their shoes to be wet all day.

March 17, 20223 yr It's really too bad @mikemack8 got tired of the same old conversations and jokes, and stopped posting here. We sure could use some originality in this thread.

Just an endless line of cars (some of these parents must start getting there close to an hour early), and then every single student has to be individually accompanied to the car to a designated pickup spot in front of the building. It takes forever to clear them all through.

When i used to drive to work, on the days where i had a late start I'd sometimes get caught in the endless line of cars trying to turn into the parking lot. Thankfully there were no knives within reach otherwise I'd immediately start cutting myself.

The new high-school my son goes to now has an intersection with a 4 way stop sign I have to go through to get there. It's a disaster in the morning.

The other day Hunt posted a meme about someone putting a stick of butter up their ass, and your mind immediately went to Kz. You have a problem - you should consider seeking help. Maybe your father-in-law could talk to you?
