Heard they’re trying to bring him back already. Needed to cut him before 4 so his 18 million wouldn’t be guaranteed this year.

So a team could essentially scoop him up with a better contract and a chance to contend

Not shocked or surprised

If he leaves without anything In return then Howie kept him for too long when the previous year he could have traded him for something.

I’m calling it now.

We cut Cox to lower his cap hit so we can trade for Deshaun Watson!!!!

End of an era.  Not the same player anymore though.  Surprised to see Brandon Graham outlast him though.

According to cap sites, The Eagles had about $15m in cap space earlier today...this probably takes all of that spare cap, surely?

We save 2 million

His cap hit was 14.9 million, being a post June 1st release his dead cap is 12.8 million. Saves us 2.1 million this year.

In a cost-cutting move, the Eagles have released a mainstay of their defense. The team has released defensive tackle Fletcher Coxaccording to Mike Garafolo of NFL Network (Twitter link).

He adds that Cox is being designated as a post-June 1st cut. The reason for the release’s timing is due to the fact that at 4:00 PM EST, $18MM of the compensation he was owed – nearly the entire amount – would have become fully guaranteed. Cutting him in this way creates over $12.8MM in dead money, while creating $2.1MM in cap space.

Interesting just for $2.1mil in cap space. I know he’s not elite anymore but not like there’s going to be anyone available who can replace his presence.

Maybe there’s a trade for a young DT in the works

He was also owed 18 million as of 4pm but it wasn’t going to all count against the cap this year.

So he'll likely sign back here to get his 18M or go to a contender?

I think he comes back with a new contract. My cousin said Slay is telling other players to not even try to recruit Cox to their team. How much money he’s gets I have no idea.

Had to do it. His production doesn't justify what it would have cost to keep him on the team.

Maybe he's back on a new deal. Who knows. Wouldn't bother me much either way.

He is in decline anyway. Replace him with a draft pick, or re-sign him and get this last year out of him, because he is seriously playing some underwhelming ball. TY, Fletch, but time waits for nobody, and it won't wait for you. Let's see what the plan is.

Interesting. The Eagles must think he's overpaid and want to restructure the deal. I wonder if there's a market for Cox?
