As ESPN continued to look for new additions to the Monday Night Football crew, it became increasingly obvious that the current members of the booth would not be returning. It’s now official.

Richard Deitsch of TheAthletic.com reports that Joe Tessitore and Booger McFarland won’t be back.

Deitsch adds that the replacements will come from within ESPN, and that decisions have not been made as to the persons who will succeed Tessitore and McFarland, both of whom will remain in "prominent roles” at ESPN.

ESPN reportedly made runs in recent months at folks like Peyton Manning, Tony Romo, and Al Michaels.

Any changes could be temporary. With rumors rampant that the next deal for Monday Night Football (which starts in 2022) may result in the game moving back to ABC, efforts to swing for the fences when it comes to the folks working the games may not result in a strikeout.

Maybe I'll actually be able to watch MNF with the sound on now.

I read where ESPN will stay in house for replacements.  I'm hoping Randy Moss will be the color analyst.  What kind of a network makes Booger the color commentator when an articulate HOF'er like Moss is just keeping the bench warm?

They need to use the formula that they used back in the 1970s.  Go with a 3 person booth.  Have a subdued play by play guy like Summerall and Gifford. Get a former player that has a fun personality like Meredith. Phillip Rivers would be ideal, but he hasn't retired yet.  Then, get a more critical analyst, not quite like Howard Cosell...but someone more analytical.  The problem nowadays is play by play guys that have never played football want to run their mouths too much, instead of just call the game.  The color commentary guys should be the ones doing most of the analysis, not the play by play guys.  Joe Buck is an example of a play by play guy that does too much yapping.

I did find it entertaining to just listen and wait to see what stupid crap he’d say next.

I thought he was fine as the third part of the broadcast. He struggled in the two-man booth.

MNF has been horrible ever since it went to ESPN (plus the Dennis Miller years). Hopefully they can't make it much worse.

Dennis Miller was horrible. He wasn’t funny, despite trying so hard to be.

And he always had about three or four scripted jokes every week that he would force into his analysis. And it was so obvious that it wasn't a spontaneous thought but that it had been planned ahead of time.
