May 30, 20223 yr Wasn't sure where to put this, but wanted to remind everyone to have fun this weekend. Quote Pelosi's husband charged with DUI (CNN)House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's husband was arrested and charged with driving under the influence after being involved in a collision Saturday night, law enforcement officials said. Paul Pelosi, 82, was arrested at 11:44 p.m. PT and charged with driving under the influence and driving with a blood alcohol content of 0.08% or higher, according to the Napa County Criminal Justice Network's public booking report. Both charges are misdemeanors. TMZ was the first to report the arrest. Pelosi was attempting to cross SR-29 when his 2021 Porsche was hit by a 2014 Jeep traveling northbound on the road, according to a collision report from the California Highway Patrol, which doesn't identify either driver as being at fault in the crash. Troopers were called to the scene just before 10:30 p.m., the report said. There were no injuries reported in the crash and the Jeep's driver was not arrested, the report said. CNN has reached out to the highway patrol and the Napa County Sheriff's Office for additional details. Bail was set at $5,000 according to the booking report, and records indicate Pelosi was released Sunday morning. "The Speaker will not be commenting on this private matter which occurred while she was on the East Coast," a statement from Drew Hammill, Pelosi's spokesperson, said. CNN reached out for an updated statement after the collision report was released. The speaker was in Rhode Island on Sunday to speak at Brown University's commencement ceremony. Paul Pelosi, a native of San Francisco, has been married to Nancy Pelosi since 1963. The two have five children.

June 10, 20223 yr Quote Starbucks may close its bathrooms to the public again Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz says his company might not be able to keep its bathrooms open to the general public. The coffee company opened its bathrooms to the public in 2018 after two Black men were denied use of the bathroom in a Philadelphia Starbucks while they were waiting for a friend to arrive. When they then sat down in the store without ordering anything, a Starbucks employee called the police, and they were arrested for trespassing. No charges were ever filed. The incident sparked protests and negative publicity. The company apologized and closed all of its stores for a day to hold racial bias training for employees. But Schultz said at a New York Times DealBook conference in Washington, DC, Thursday, that the company may have to change its policy once again. He said that a growing mental health problem was posing a threat to staff and customers and making it difficult for Starbucks employees to manage its stores with the current policy in place. "We have to harden our stores and provide safety for our people," the Times quoted Schultz as saying at the conference. "I don't know if we can keep our bathrooms open." Schultz said in 2018, when he was the company's executive chairman, that opening bathrooms to anyone who asked was the right decision because of the implicit bias that occurred when they are denied access to the bathrooms. "We don't want anyone at Starbucks to feel as if we are not giving access to you to the bathroom because you are less than. We want you to be more than," Schultz said at that time. Schultz recently returned to run the retailer as interim CEO, and he has been contending with growing angst among employees. The company is facing a union organizing drive among its store employees. Although the union has won votes at only a small fraction of the company's 9,000 US stores, it has been achieving overwhelming success in the votes held so far.

June 23, 20223 yr Wife had a flat tire on her car. Went to change it, but could only loosen 3 of the 5 lugs. Actually started to deform lug wrench. Figured it was just cheap wrench so got my star wrench from garage, but still couldn’t get lugs loose. Ended up calling AAA. Luckily this was in driveway and not in traffic. Anyone one else experience this. It did give me the excuse to buy and impact driver though.

July 4, 20223 yr Author @Ipiggles I looked at some vids on YouTube of Ios. Looks like it is WAY commercialized now and looks like any other Euro trashy place, e.g. Ibizia, Marbella. Gone are the backpacker days living in some tiny cinder block hole for $1/night and with basically no shower and tp in the trash can next to the crap toilet. Oh well, those were the dayz...
July 22, 20223 yr Author My Unifi 8-port switch just crapped out (totally dead) last evening and there are essentially none to be found anywhere. Looks like they are victims of the supply issues stemming from the pandemic. For now, I'm running everything off of my phone but it isn't particularly practical. I have the entire house fully wired up with three APs, one handling each floor. Guess I'll have to rig up some other solution while I wait.

August 5, 20223 yr Author Out walking my dog last night about 11pm and met a badger. It was coming out of some bushes on one side of a small street and wanted to cross to the other side. It rushed out and got within 3-4ft of us. It turned around and started back into the bushes and then immediately made a new go for it and crossed about 5ft in front of us. It was a full grown adult and not something I wanted to mess with. I've heard a couple neighbors down the end of my street say they've seen one. Hope we don't get them in our yards now. Foxes are one thing.

All of our gun safes have keypads so if baby girl ever figures out the codes, we can change them. What they did was really, really dumb.
