Sexism, Hate, Mental Illness: Why Are Men Randomly Punching Women?

Conversation about the attacks on the streets of New York have centered on mental illness, but the offenses seem to have their roots in hatred of women.

Why?

They are huge puss bags who are too cowardly to fight.

Was it about SCUBA gear?

"My colleagues and I did a study about 10 years ago looking at the two different parties in the United States—not in terms of ideology or policies but purely in terms of violent death rates—and, astonishingly, we found that over a 110-year period, almost without exception, whenever there was a Republican president who was elected, the murder and suicide rates would double, and whenever there was a Democratic president elected, the murder and suicide rates would halve.”

She added that people don’t generally notice this because there’s a roughly two-year time lag between elections and the time the increases or decreases in suicide and homicide measurably set in.

And, she said, it wasn’t just the economic policies of the parties that was driving the violence; it was primarily how they talked about America and thus caused us to think about ourselves and each other: "Whenever Democrats are elected, we tend to do well, to prosper not only in terms of unemployment but also in terms of rising GDP, but [we] also see a change in violent death rates, so that showed that there was not just an ideological difference or a policy driven difference, but a difference based on whatever the party brings, whether it’s rhetoric or public perception. The party alone made the difference in violence rates.”

As the Brennan Center for Justice noted seven weeks ago:

"In 2020, President Trump’s last year in office, murder rates climbed by nearly 30 percent and assault rates by more than 10 percent.…

"But since 2021, violent crime has started to fall. According to the FBI, as of 2022 violent crime rates had fallen by 4 percent and murder rates by roughly 7 percent since 2020. Preliminary data suggests those declines accelerated in 2023.”

That's crazy.  I wonder what was going on in 2020 for them to spike like that.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Supreme Court agreed on Monday to take up a Biden administration appeal over the regulation of difficult-to-trace ghost guns that had been struck down by lower courts.

The justices by a 5-4 vote had previously intervened to keep the regulation in effect during the legal fight. Ghost guns, which lack serial numbers, have been turning up at crime scenes with increasing regularity.

The regulation, which took effect in 2022, changed the definition of a firearm under federal law to include unfinished parts, like the frame of a handgun or the receiver of a long gun, so they can be tracked more easily. Those parts must be licensed and include serial numbers. Manufacturers must also run background checks before a sale, as they do with other commercially made firearms.

The requirement applies regardless of how the firearm was made, meaning it includes ghost guns made from individual parts or kits or by 3D printers. The rule does not prohibit people from buying a kit or any type of firearm.

I have no objections to moms breastfeeding in public, but WTF are you doing at night, at a comedy show, with an infant?

Uhh.... catching a show Toaster.   Duh.

I'm fine with them breastfeeding, but I don't need to see it. A cover of some sort should be used, I don't want to see anyone's nipple (considering the vast majority of moms that breastfeed in public are not of the attractive variety.)  Yes, I know it's "natural" and maybe this makes me too prudish or whatever, but being drunk enough to piss on some bushes outside of a house party is perfectly "natural" too but also comes with the risk of getting slapped with an indecent exposure charge if I get caught doing it.

I really don't care if mom's breastfeed, irrespective of whether their boobs are nice or not.

And I'm generally pretty tolerant of kids-being-kids in shared public spaces; sometimes babies will cry on planes, and toddlers can sometimes get away from parents at the store or whatever. As long as the parent is trying to reign them in in an age appropriate way to teach them how to behave in public, it doesn't bother me.

But you don't take an infant to a show that is intended for adults. And you don't get to act indignant and entitled because you're asked to leave when you're interrupting a show that lots of adults have paid money to see. That's just bonkers.

TikTok has vowed to legally challenge the measure.

Airline canceled your flight? The plane arrived hours late after a maintenance issue? The inflight Wi-Fi didn’t work?

New federal rules say travelers deserve cash refunds when inconvenienced by their airline – not vouchers or travel credits.

"From now on when your flight is canceled for any reason, you are entitled to an automatic cash refund and it has to be prompt,” Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg told CNN’s John Berman on Wednesday.

"If you get delayed significantly, that means three hours domestically, six hours internationally, or if there’s another significant change to your itinerary — like maybe you were going to go into one airport, they actually changed the airport on you or something like that — you’re going to get your money back.”

The rules, announced by the Transportation Department on Wednesday, also require airlines to provide upfront information about fees for baggage and changing flights.

Although many airlines have done away with change fees and disclose fees on their websites, Buttigieg estimated more transparency with some airlines and websites would make it easier for travelers to shop around – ultimately saving consumers millions every year.

The rule would formalize the requirement he referred to that passengers receive refunds if a domestic flight is delayed by more than three hours or if an international flight is delayed by more than six hours.

It would also require a refund of any baggage fees for bags that arrive more than 12 hours late, and a refund of the fee for a purchased service like Wi-Fi or upgraded seating if the airline doesn’t deliver.

The Biden administration has finalized a new rule set to make millions of more salaried workers eligible for overtime pay in the U.S.

The move marks the largest expansion in federal overtime eligibility seen in decades. Starting July 1, employers will be required pay overtime to salaried workers who make less than $43,888 a year in certain executive, administrative and professional roles, the Labor Department said Tuesday. That cap will then rise to $58,656 by the start of 2025.

"Too often, lower-paid salaried workers are doing the same job as their hourly counterparts but are spending more time away from their families for no additional pay. That is unacceptable,” acting Secretary of Labor Julie Su said in a prepared statement.

She added that the administration was "following through on our promise to raise the bar.”

Tuesday’s news marks a significant jump from the current overtime eligibility threshold of $35,568, which was set under the Trump administration in 2019 — just three years after a more generous Obama-era effort was ultimately scuttled in court after facing pushback from some business leaders and Republican politicians.

Biden's also going after non-compete contracts that limit workers' ability in many states to move to a competitor.

IP and non-disclosures are unaffected, but as part of their stated goal of bolstering anti-trust this is their latest salvo.

Much cheaper to spend $10 million on lobbyists and campaign contributions, than pan ten times that to run a clean business.
