Awesome!  I went to the Marques De Riscal winery Sept '19.  A massive production facility.  We got there on the first day of harvest for the year so there was quite a buzz.  They have a super cool old natural cellar where they keep bottles of every vintage for all their wines going back over 100 years.  They re-cork them every 15 years or so.

That dinner looks Fing great!

That's really cool! I'll definitely have to tour a winery or two next time I get to Europe. I just started getting into collecting and pairing close to a year ago (thanks, COVID!) and really like this vintage.  I noticed the 2013s changing to 2014s in the stores and snagged up about 6 of these to cellar. It's incredible value for something that was going for less than $20/bottle. I'm gonna try to stay patient and check back in around the 10-year mark, but it's drinking great right now. I'd read that lamb is considered a go-to pairing for rioja and found a nice but simple enough recipe for shanks w/chorizo from the BBC, so I figured I'd give this a try. It took me a little bit to actually find the meat, but I tracked some down at a small farm in Lancaster Co. that is all grass-fed, non GMO products. I don't have much experience with lamb, but the tenderness was out of this world. I think they were definitely some prime cuts. It was literally falling off the boneno knife needed!

Check up on the years for the region and the particular brands.  Sometimes better to spend more on one vintage vs. another.  When I get a chunk of one bottle like you did with the 6 I usually try to put a couple somewhere where I'll be disciplined enough to leave them and then I'll have a couple that I drink whenever the right moment arises.  That generally works for me.

I just checked 2014 was officially a "good" year for Rioja so decent but not great.  You can easily see the yearly rating with a simple google search.

btw - If you like the Riojas give the Ribera del Dueros a try.  They tend to be a level nicer and based off the same grape, tempranillo.  They are generally an extra 5-10 dollars per bottle but give a couple a try some time when you're getting some good lamb or beef.

Yeah, basically what I have right now is I have a chiller that's filled and I pretty much don't touch what's in it. When it's just a casual thing, I either go and pick up up a bottle from the store, or I have a little side stash at home that I dip into.

I am definitely into riojas, so I appreciate the suggestion and will keep an eye out for them. It's a pretty versatile style. And I actually have two bottles of this that are 2014 vintage as well, so I'm glad to hear that it's considered a good year. I figure I might do a comparison between both vintages down the line somewhere.

Marilyn Manson Dropped by Record Label After Abuse Allegations

He's also been dropped from a tv program.  Another #metoo victim.  He might be guiltier than hell but he's dropped simply from a set of allegations, serious allegations to be fair.  A troubling topic no matter how you look at it.

https://www.cnbc.com/2021/02/04/us-is-worst-among-rich-nations-for-worker-benefits.html

Americans have it worse than all other developed nations when it comes to benefits for workers, according to a new ranking.

The U.S. places last relative to its national policies around healthcare, unemployment, retirement, parental leave, and paid vacation and sick days, according to Zenefits, a human resources firm.

The Czech Republic, Latvia, South Korea and Mexico joined the U.S. among the five least-generous countries. Denmark, the Netherlands, Finland, Sweden and Switzerland were the top nations for worker benefits.

The U.S., for example, is the only advanced nation that doesn’t guarantee paid vacation time to workers, according to the Center for Economic and Policy Research. By comparison, Europeans get at least 20 days of legally mandated vacation days, and some countries require at least 30.

It’s also the only industrialized nation that doesn’t offer universal healthcare for its citizens. The U.S. spends more on healthcare than other high-income countries relative to the size of its economy. However, it also has the highest number of hospitalizations from preventable causes and the highest rate of avoidable deaths relative to other wealthy nations, according to the Commonwealth Fund.

Millions of workers have leveraged the U.S. unemployment system during the Covid pandemic. But it’s among the least generous systems relative to amount and duration of benefits. For example, while Denmark pays 90% of a worker’s lost earnings for up to 104 weeks, the U.S. generally replaces half of prior wages for up to 26 weeks. (Federal lawmakers temporarily extended and raised aid amounts during the pandemic.)

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - Two Tennessee lawmakers proposed a bill that would allow the father of an unborn child to seek a court injunction to prohibit the mother from getting an abortion.

House Bill 1079 introduced by Rep. Jerry Sexton passed on first consideration and Senate Bill 494 introduced by Sen. Mark Pody was passed on second consideration Thursday.

The proposed legislation states, "a person may petition a court with jurisdiction over domestic relations matters to request an injunction to prohibit a woman who is pregnant with the person’s unborn child from obtaining an abortion.”

The bill would require that within 14 days of filing an injunction, the man prove to a court that he is the biological father and prove there is reasonable probability that the woman would get an abortion.

If the woman violates the injunction by getting an abortion, she could be held in civil or criminal contempt, under the proposed legislation.

I knew this was coming.  I used to debate it with TEW.  Starting point would be to actual register the unborn with all legal rights, SS#, etc. etc. and then we can talk.  Until that happens there is no legal jurisdiction in my mind.

Holy crap! The engine on a United flight caught fire.

Parts fell out of the sky.

The plane made an emergency landing, everybody is ok.

I saw that this morning.  While waiting for take off. <_<

What are the chances something like this happens twice in two days?

If you aren't flying United, then your outlook looks even better. Right?

Yeah.

Plus I have 1.5 million miles with United so I’m pretty sure I’m due

Don't know anyone that's been in that situation. I know someone who experienced a fire on the plane and it had to land

Lol I don't know how I'd react to an engine on fire

You're in luck.  I hear you can now cash that level of points in for a lifetime supply of toilet paper.

I've been in situations where the pilot abandoned a landing or hitting an air pocket and dropping about 50 feet in a propeller plane, but nothing that crazy.

Worst I experienced was about 30 mins of intense turbulence that left me super shaken and lots of passengers praying and/or crying. Massive drops and rises and wicked jolts and shifts.
