How is it fathomable this topic hasn't been made yet? We need this guy, there is no where we could spend our remaining cap dollars  where it'd pay off more than with him.

Tyrann Mathieu is 29

Achievements of Safeties with similar reputation to Mathieu in the last 25 years after they turned 30 years old:

Malcolm Jenkins: 2 pro bowls, 1 SB, started 16 games at 34

Ed Reed: 5 pro bowls, 1 all-pro, 1 SB, 16 starts at 34

Brian Dawkins: 6 pro bowls, 2 All-pros, Final PB appearance at 38

Troy Polamalu: 2 pro bowls, 1 all pro, still Pitt’s starting safety at 34

Eric Waddle: 3 pro bowls, started 16 games at 34

John Lynch: 6 pro bowls, 1 SB, started final pro bowl at 36

Devin Mccourty: 1 SB, has started 81 consecutive games since turning 30, maybe the most impressive feat on this list.

Rodney Harrison: 1 All-Pro, 2007 undefeated Patriot’s leader on defense at 35

Lawyer Milloy: started 107 games after turning 30, including 16 at 37.

Give him a 5 year deal and he'll very likely earn it.

Here's what will happen...he will sign elsewhere and then we will hear how the Eagles "made an aggressive offer"

I wish this could happen but after the brown sign and Trade I dont see how we can afford him.  At this current point we ere starting Zech mcphearson and Marcus Epps which just can’t happen and isn’t good enough.  So having to find a starting caliber outside corner and a starting caliber safety is going to be hard to fit under the cap with our current situation.  I never worry about money with howie cuz whenever they want it they can get it but I don’t know it would be the cherry on top of a good offseason/draft and make it great.

It seems like we will have to sign a free agent DB soon, so maybe there’s something in the works.

We have to sign 2 free agent DBs. One S and one CB.

Sadly, this sounds like a familiar story.

We do - any CB or safety selected now is highly unlikely to be able to start.

Mathieu makes perfect sense.

Agreed and so does Fuller. The coaches may be bigger on Gowan than we are and I do think McPhearson has potential but it's a gamble with the current CBs AND S.

Shouldnt have let Nelson go,, If we had Nelson & Mathieu, team wouldve been set for a deep play off run,..

I'm not so sure I agree. Nelson needed help last year to be able to be somewhat solid. We needed to upgrade over him. The issue right now is we haven't.

Sounds like Saints are going to make a strong push. Sadly I think they will get him.

At this point don't think they will be signing Mathieu...Saints will offer a butt load of money and Eagles will say take him

Okay, so I had completely talked myself out of Mathieu. BUT, I did start to wonder whether this has been fed by Mathieu's camp. The Saints are not as desperate as us at safety. They have CGJ and Maye and Sorensen as a third safety. I guess they could keep CGJ at nickel, but they will want to slot in their second rounder somewhere.

Plus Mathieu said the Saints didn't really need him after their visit.

Maybe I'm being overly optimistic. But definitely feels like we need him more.

I hope we can land him but I believe the Saints are the favorite right now

Oh yeah, we need him more. We might have the worst safety duo in the NFL right now..

Saints are definitely favourites. If the reports are right that they are making an aggressive push, then Eagles have very little chance. Just hoping that they have been leaked to try and drive up his price and that the Eagles are the only realistic suitor (kind of like Nelson last year).
