Just kidding JJAW  cant catch so he’ll block. Like all the time. As if it’s his job.  Because it will be.  As a blocking TE.

Way to go Howie.  😂

the draft hasn’t started yet and already he’s failing.

I could see him making the team as a tight end.  No matter the weight he outs on he will be a pretty small one at 6-2.

Already a better blocker than Ertz

On one hand, it's interesting.  WR clearly hasn't worked out and he's got the H-back specs to be a Trey Burton type.  After he gains about 10 pounds, he probably wouldn't even be all that fast for an H-back at that point.

On the other hand, this may impact his position on the team website, but he was basically used as an h-back last year.  He and Zach Ertz practically crossed paths with each other on the TE-WR spectrum.

Proof that Sirianni reads this board.

If the rumors are true and JJAW has ties to Lurie, this just seems like a way to keep him around for another season. I'm more excited about the Tyree Jackson TE project. JJAW had his shot at WR. While he did his best to do what the team asked from him as a blocker, he just couldn't seem to make himself into a viable pass-catching target after 3 seasons. Why should we expect a position change to make a difference? On the other hand, he's still under contract, so give him TC and preseason. We need bodies for that (at least until it's clear who to keep and who to let go).

So he can be twice as terrible?

We spent a 2nd round pick on a 3rd/4th TE. Nice.

Makes sense really. He's not been good at WR but I think he's been a pretty decent blocker so why not move him across to TE and try him there? We have a need at TE too so that's a factor.

True and he's been a bust. I guess this is one way where there's a small chance he could provide some value.

This is what happens when the owner makes draft picks.  We keep his guy around through his rookie contract even though he can't play in the league.

JJAW blocking smaller corners is one thing, but now having to block linemen and linebackers is something totally different. I have a lot of doubts this will pan out, besides don’t they already have a project TE in Jackson?

Shouldn’t this be just merged?

This worked well for Jordan Matthews ...

Jackson is recovering from a torn ACL so who knows when he'll be ready.  Setting aside JJAW , this is another indication of the "positionless players" direction the NFL is going.  Deebo Samuel is a WR who lines up in the backfield; Evan Engram is going the other way - a TE who is moving to the slot.  There are similar examples at every skill position on the field, including quarterback (Taysom Hill).  TEs having to be 6'6' 265 isn't the standard anymore. This position is trending with the rest of the league - giving way to a quicker, more versatile interpretation of the position.

If Nick and the boys think they can scheme to get JJAW some mismatches against linebackers good on them. They're adapters and innovators.

Because plan B is to cut him and save a million bucks in cap space.

Howie is having trouble owning this mistake so now he is just prolonging it.

Yeah Samuel is a guy who can actually play. All we know about JJAW is he can block defensive backs and play special teams. Just go and draft another TE. To be honest I don’t see JJAW being schemed in for anything or winning a lot of matches against anyone. What I do see is whoever is playing quarterback get pummeled, because the offense is trying to get cute and have JJAW blocking a defensive linemen one on one or a defense smart enough to scheme that to happen. I don’t see opportunity here. I see a liability.

At this point, why not?  And,  at this point, who gives a sh-- where he was drafted?

If Sirianni and Michael can make him productive, in any way, then go for it.  If he can't adapt, it will be obvious in camp and then they can decide if they want to continue with the transition.  But special teamers are usually not starters but can be a big, unrecognized asset to winning teams.  JJAW is a good special teams player and if he can contribute, even a little, as a 3rd TE then it may be worth a salvage plan.

I like plan B, I like it a lot.

Makes sense. We're probably going to be bringing at least one WR in the early rounds and potentially another in the latter rounds, so he was definitely going to be an odd man out there. Moving to TE where we don't really have any roster locks behind Goedert gives him at least a small chance to stick around.
