Posted May 2, 20223 yr NFL DRAFT: EAGLES SIGN 3 SLEEPER CORNERS VIA UDFA By Victor Williams April 30, 2022 As the rounds went by in the NFL Draft, many wondered when the Eagles would address the numerous holes in the secondary. Apparently, they were waiting for the UDFA market to open up as the Eagles pounced on three promising corners just minutes after the draft: Mario Goodrich, CB — Clemson Goodrich is an excellent zone corner who plays with exceptional vision and ball skills. He was one of 10 CBs in this class who played over 360 coverage snaps and allowed 0 TDs. Goodrich is a strong tackler with a high football IQ who can also double-up at safety. The Eagles signed Goodrich to a fully guaranteed deal that pays him $217,000, much more than the typical UDFA contract. An indication that he’ll be able to carve out a starting role next season. Josh Jobe, CB — Alabama The Eagles bring in another Alabama player, and honestly, it’s puzzling that Jobe even went undrafted. He took a step back after an impressive 2020 season but has flashed all the skills necessary to develop into a regular NFL starter. Jobe is aggressive in the run game and utilizes his long frame to disrupt routes. His most productive years were across from Patrick Surtain II, however. Jobe also underwent foot surgery in December that kept him out of the College Football Playoff. Josh Blackwell, CB — Duke Blackwell is a quality cover corner with above-average playmaking ability. He tracks the ball well and gets his head around to effectively break up passes. Consistency has been an issue for Blackwell, but he possesses the speed and fundamentals to succeed at the pro level. https://thelibertyline.com/2022/04/30/eagles-sign-3-corners-udfa/
May 2, 20223 yr Author Once we got past days 1 and 2 and the top CBs were taken, I was hoping for Jobe's teammate Armour-Davis but he got snatched up by Baltimore in the 4th. Even if we hadn't traded our 4th as part of the move up for Davis he still would have gone before our pick which was originally 124 (AD was taken at 119). I am intrigued by both Goodrich and Jobe though - will be interesting to see what their future roles (if any) are ... does either earn a roster spot, can one play their way into legitimate play time, will either be moved to safety, etc.

Might be better off there…
May 3, 20223 yr Given the amount of players who declared for the draft there's got to be hope that one of these UDFAs can end up being a good addition. All 3 are going to get a shot given the state of the CB position on this team right now.
May 3, 20223 yr College players go into the draft at all different levels of development. Hopefully, these guys can learn and develop more and earn a spot or go on the PS. The eagles have 12 CBs going into OTAs with Slay and Maddox as the only 2 locks for the roster. I would imagine neither one gets a whole lot of playing time in the preseason games. It's going to be an interesting training camp to see who earns roster spots.

They really like him and he was a 4th round pick last year. Here's how I would like to see (without any further additions, which we all know is unlikely) the secondary play out with the Eagles most likely wanting to play a lot of 2-high S without having to commit a S to the box: LCB: Slay, Gowan RCB: McPhearson, Goodrich SCB: Maddox, Scott FS: Harris, Vincent/Jobe, Chachere SS: Epps, Wallace I think McPhearson will be given every opportunity to win the job across from Slay barring a FA signing. Outside CB backups are Gowan and Goodrich. Maddox in the slot backed up by Josiah Scott. With the birds likely looking to do 2-high, a combo of Harris and one of Kary Vincent (played FS and SCB at LSU), Josh Jobe (like him better as a S prospect than a CB) or Andre Chachere (most likely ST only) makes the most sense as they fit the FS mold better than Epps or Wallace. Those two get time at SS when they're bringing one down in the box and on ST. Ideally they bring in another CB and S. Gowan/Goodrich/McPhearson compete for the 2 backup slots, Epps and Wallace battle for a roster spot, Vincent and Jobe battle for a roster spot and the FA S brought in plays across from Harris (who was not as dreadful last year as some make him out to be). So then it looks like: LCB: Slay, McPhearson RCB: FA, Gowan/Goodrich SCB: Maddox, Scott FS1: Harris, Vincent/Jobe FS2: FA, Chachere SS: Epps/Wallace We have a lot of untested youth in the secondary, and I'm looking forward to the competition in TC and preseason.

Do you think James, McCain, and Mayden are pretty much locks to not make the roster? I think they are pretty much all in the same boat as Chachere (pretty much relegated to STs only).

The only "lock" at S based on things I've heard is...Epps. Every other spot is up for grabs. Those 3? PS at best.
