When Trump’s minions came out in force to protest closures while praising him, it ensured the reopens would be as crassly political as possible. Is this kind of politicization of something as basic as public health/economic improvement helpful or damaging during a crisis like this?

Trumpism shuns experts and that includes public health experts.

This has been political from the start on both sides, let’s not pretend it started with the parade of idiots these past 2 weeks. There are multiple threads to talk about did we need another one.

Not like this. These are obviously just people with strictly political motives, organized by political operatives, with the sole purpose of forcing the ReOpen to become political.

And my question is more about what effect politicizing the ReOpen has. It certainly caused some red state governors to speed it up, likely ahead of schedule, while it may have the effect of causing blue governors to keep it closed so they don’t look like their cow towing to the crazies.

it just seems like a very dangerous, stupid way to force a public health decision on the country.

Im doing my best to ignore these clowns in government.

Most of them know what the average joe is going through with the shut down and yet they are clearly more concerned about their own future.

f them all

anyone who needs money and isnt working needs to go find work.  Whatever  it takes.  Dont sit around waiting for the government to provide.

dont be a victim.

 Refusing to even acknowledge that many protesters may just, earnestly, want to be allowed to go back to work is exactly what a useful idiot for these tyrannical governors would do.  Accusing them of politicizing it while, in the first few words of your post you politicize it, is super thoughtful and self-reflective.

They’re waving Trump signs, moron. If you’re earnestly protesting government action you don’t selectively praise the man in charge of the government, who, by the way, put out shut down guidelines that many of these governors are following. Obvious paid protestors are obvious. Speaking of useful idiots...

Seriously. It's clearly a Trump rally sans Trump.

I acknowledge protesters rights to protest. I want the world to go back to normal.

It would be nice if people could do the sensible thing on their own. They can't. People are stupid. "It won't happen to me" is what every idiot thinks, whether driving a car while texting or not using turn signals or throwing their medical waste on the ground because they are too lazy to find a trash can.

Or walk around spreading a disease in a pandemic because "they feel fine and aren't coughing or anything"

I'm sorry you have to be treated like little children because you are so entitled you are 100% sure your right to a normal life is both more important and morally superior to the public need for you to limit your activities during a pandemic.

If that were true they wouldn’t all be carrying Trump signs and flags. These are campaign rallies organized by the Trump campaign.

The government is not our parent, they work for us. Stay home, no one is forcing you to go out, but forcing people to stay home is an extremely dangerous idea too.

Why do you keep making this about me? How do you have any idea what I’ve been doing for the past 10+ weeks?

Libertarian minded Americans: ‘’Give me liberty, or give me death!’’

China causes moderately severe global pandemic.

Some Libertarian minded Americans: ‘’Take my liberty away! I don’t want to die!’’

It is a shame that people won't follow guidelines and prevent the spread of a disease in a pandemic. It is a shame that people feel it is more important to increase your wealth regardless of how many have to die for that to happen. It's a shame the corrupt government is giving billions to companies who can borrow at zero interest instead of setting up "HORRORS" mandatory testing, mandatory contact tracing, both of which are HUGE invasions of my constitutional rights.

I just don't think my right to hair cuts, movies and gyms is more important than stopping the spread of a global pandemic. I have too many medical people in the family, mostly nurses and EMTs, to wish anything but a clamp down on this.

If you are okay with people dying so you can go about your pre-COVID life, I think that you might be freedom loving, but sure are American coitizen hating.

You are ok with people dying so you can play court jester for the tyrannical. Sad.

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. (KGO) -- Doctors at John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek say they have seen more deaths by suicide during this quarantine period than deaths from the COVID-19 virus....

...The numbers are unprecedented, he said.

"We've never seen numbers like this, in such a short period of time," he said. "I mean we've seen a year's worth of suicide attempts in the last four weeks."

Kacey Hansen has worked as a trauma nurse at John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek for almost 33 years. She is worried because not only are they seeing more suicide attempts, she says they are not able to save as many patients as usual.

"What I have seen recently, I have never seen before," Hansen said. "I have never seen so much intentional injury."

The trauma team is speaking out because they want the community to be aware, for people to reach out and support each other and for those who are suffering to know they can get help.

This is on you, you selfish jerk.

How many suicide deaths vs COVID deaths?

I'm okay with idiots infecting each other and dying off from stupidity. That's why we have cliffs - so morons can walk off them.

Skimming this yesterday, I missed the opportunity to point out that genetics took away your right to a haircut many years ago.

People want to go about their lives and some idiots think it's all political.

Democrats think keeping this circus front and center hurts Trump politically so a return to more normal circumstances must be bad.

F'ing losers!

You are summer child mate.  A blissfully innocent summer child who has never had to live in apart of the world where pandemics are common. That's really the only explanation for this attitude.  In Asia and Africa they know the drill, just like a person that grows up in the cold knows they have to insulate the house, people that live around pandemics know how to deal with them.

You're not tough, you're a snowflake of the western world.

It's that or democrats think they're losing a campaign issue by America going about it's business. How dare people brave a corona virus by living their lives and deny democrats an edge in an election? It's unfathomable, reckless blah blah blah

Only cucks are still huddling in their hovels out of party loyalty.
