August 31, 20232 yr Just finished season 2. Holy crap, that was really good viewing. I kind of hope they don't make any more of it as it'll be hard to top
October 21, 20231 yr Author A lot of people are still sleeping on this amazing show. Best thing I have watched the last few years, I would describe it as intense Duke’s Coach K Wants to Cameo in ‘The Bear,’ Sent Ayo Edebiri a Signed Copy of ‘Leading With the Heart’ https://variety.com/2023/tv/news/coach-k-duke-the-bear-cameo-ayo-edebiri-1235763175/
January 30, 20241 yr So I just binged both seasons of this over the past week or so - really really good. Immensely enjoyed the Xmas episode, and also Richie's episode working at the other restaurant. Final episode of season 2 was very bittersweet - interested to see how season 3 looks. Funny thing is, I think that the lead character of the show is my least favorite.

July 9, 20241 yr OK so I finished up season 3 of The Bear last night - this really isn't a good show anymore. There were a few standout moments, maybe even a standout episode or two, but overall it's lost what made it great. Nothing really happened throughout the course of the entire season.
July 10, 20241 yr I'm only 4 episodes in and there is some definite filler in there - the first ep 1 was a strange way to start, but. Still enjoying it as there are also some little moments that make me think you sly gits

Unpopular opinion, but I thought this show was pretty overrated. I haven't finished season 2 yet, but I've seen the Christmas episode (that was a great episode of TV). I liked the show overall, but I guess it was all about expectations for me, and I expected a lot more. And I still can't see "Carmy" as anyone other than Lip every time I see his stupid face.

I thought seasons 1 and 2 were somewhere between good and great, but now all that happens is awkward, too long, nonsensical conversations mixed in with people having nervous breakdowns all the time. That being said, I'm fully committed and will watch future seasons
July 29, 20241 yr Just finished the current season Spoiler 2 episodes were fillerific - Tina's back story and the baby ones. The hospital one reminded me of being at school clock watching because I was so bored. I did wonder if this series would be affected by the Iron Claw film and I was right as it was a bit disjointed at times. The core of the series was good, but not great. I hope next years is more focused and the amount of shouting goes down.

Spoiler I would like to think that the writers of this show would listen to the negative reviews from S3 and correct them for S4, but from what I hear they already most or all of S4 shot.

Spoiler Yikes. It kind of stalled itself around the restaurant review and Syd, so would hope they push it on a bit now. But concerned the Fantastic Four has got in the way.

Still enjoying it as there are also some little moments that make me think you sly gits I just watched all of season 3 in the last week. I have the opposite opinion, I think season 3 was overall better than season 2. Yes, agree on the filler episodes though. I think there's a lot of great things about the show and characters. I think the issue is pacing. They rushed the early episodes of season 1. Season 2 they did slow down to take their time in building a restaurant and showing what that takes, but also rushed the inexperienced sandwich cooks through gourmet restaurant boot camp. Rich spent one week polishing forks and all of a sudden acts like an expert (when he's not being completely unhinged and yelling at his cousin). He was there one week and in the finale when he returns they treat him like a legend who was there for years. The story of a gourmet chef who has faced his share of failures, trying to turn his dead brother's vision into reality while overcoming his anxiety and fighting personal demons, all while training a bunch of greasy Italian beef short order cooks to be gourmet chefs and managing dysfunctional family... is a good one. I've watched a lot of cooking shows and seen the work of some of the famous real chefs that appeared on The Bear. Season 3 felt like more of an insider story of what it's like in their world. I think part of what throws audiences off is not knowing what to expect. You turn on one episode and it's a montage of flashbacks mostly over (loud, grating) music that is overbearing like a Hans Zimmer score but the images are creative and beautiful. The next episode will be a frenetic kitchen episode of service showing the day in the life. Another will be all personal drama and family dynamics with no cooking in this show about a restaurant. Then the next will jump back years for backstory on a supporting character. Then back to the restaurant. Then back to a random day of breaking down cardboard at the dumpster and weighing their futures. It has a lot of great items on the menu, but the execution of the service isn't always great. "Hands!"
August 7, 20241 yr Carmy is also a great character for showing how someone deals with anxiety and coming from a dysfunctional family and trying to move past that and achieve. He admitted that he's constantly cooking or creating recipes to manage his anxiety. I like they way they often show, don't tell, about what he's dealing with. Without spoiler, how he handled a certain interaction in the finale and his reactions were very well done. That was compelling stuff. Even the "filler" episode with the baby, when the Mom shows up you're bracing for drama and how that played out was well done also. Jaime Lee Curtis is doing a really good job in that role. These things are good drama and good character development, but we see them as filler because it's not about the restaurant. But it is about the backdrop of the family dynamics. That season 2 Christmas episode is one of the most unique episodes of TV because it was strictly context of their past family dynamics and did not move the current plot forward. But it was excellent.

The filler episodes got in the way a bit and the Tina one was 10 minutes of story stretched out - the Marcus episode in season 2 was a better way to do it. I still enjoyed the Bear a lot, but I did prefer season 2. The Funeral episode managed to the bring it together for Carmy and set the scene for next season - they nailed that. I did like the addition of the Computer. It's a good wrinkle
August 10, 20241 yr Caught the first 2 of S3 last night, great show. The formula is like a pixies song, a constant stop/start between ethereal and rage.

I'm just picturing the day my sister ends up having her first kid and that's essentially what I would expect. (not the Christmas episode though... thankfully I'm safe from that level of crazy)

I did like the addition of the Computer. It's a good wrinkle Fun fact: the Christmas episode "fishes” was not originally planned. Season 2 was picked up and They had planned for 8, with the success they had, the network asked for 2 episodes to be added. The Xmas episode was one. I believe "sundae” was the other one which was a filler for Sydney visiting various Chicago restaurants for inspiration. Fun fact 2: season 3 and 4 were filmed at the same time but was originally only supposed to be an extended 3rd season. Episodes were running long so they split it into 2 seasons. Which is why season 3 mostly sucks. Much of what we see is supposed to be filler for the longer 3rd season but instead they will split it up. The back half of season 3 is better and finale is back on track IMO.
