So the State Police didn't follow the Red Flag Law by filing with the State to have this kid's gun rights suspended.

The two incidents, one threatening suicide in 2018 and the second in 2019 threatening to kill everyone should again have been enough for the police to file under the Red Flag law passed in 2019, to again suspend his gun rights. Its a no brainer, but Police are seemingly, unwilling to comply. They certainly had enough reason to get this kid on a mental heath hold, and then file the paperwork and they have a hearing in front of a Judge.

Once again this could have been avoided.

Probably need more gun laws and not focus on enforcing the ones we have and the mental issues going on in this country.

I guess you dont realize how many 140,000,000 people are.

I understand that lots of people own guns and that most people handle them in a safe manner. I also believe that they should have the right to own a gun which is stipulated in the second amendment. On the flipside, I think people should be able to go to school or the grocery store or a parade without having to worry about getting shot and killed.  I understand that gun nuts don’t like the potential trade-off and I’m really past caring.

Congress hasn't even had time to have their page's read the law they just passed so someone knows what's in it

ABC interview tonight:

We don't even know if the recently passed law would have stopped this.

I posted it only because of how this thread started, with Moss and dirtstar immediately rushing to politicize it. Funny how no one (except for one paragon of moral superiority) had a problem with it then.

Lot of words just to say you're a hypocrite.

Damn, that’s horrible

I admit I've never seem Bacarty and O'Reilly at the same time...

If you don't enforce a law, you don't have a law.

You have a suggestion.

The go to response of NRA egg head, supporters after every mass shooting. As if they are the same thing.

Kind of Like BLM, Antifa protests are the same as the insurrection at the Capitol. Talk about your false Equivalency.

Somebody, somewhere told that kid to run before shots were fired.

How long do you think he'll be in prison before he sues the govt to pay for a sex change operation?

I dont think I'm a gun nut. I'm pro gun, pro background check.

What is boggling to me is, this "person" looks speical as F, mentally unstable a mile away, "it's" parents helped him get the gun so heres my thoughts...

1) no gun law, rule would prevent this

2) Charge the family for 1st degree murder x7

3) figure out a way to start focusing on mental health of these soft lunatics.

BUTTTTTT

My guess...

We'll see another lunatic shooting like this, local LEO and FBI will probably say he was on our radar, thats our bad. The National media will shove gun law down our throats, the liberal mouth breathers will yell the same thing, and we'll be back here.

Did the parents break any laws?

not true. the kid didn't try anything like this back in 2019 when he was reported & the police found 16 knives. he waited until he was able to purchase a semi-auto rifle and high capacity mags. the type of weapon matters.

I think if you co-sign, or whatever this is called, for a gun you should be held responsible for the actions of the user of the gun.

Guns don't kill people though. People kill people. At least that's what I hear.

Father should be charged with whatever law he broke and that's it.

What law would of stopped this? Illinois is one of the strictest states to get a gun.

assault weapon ban is being thrown out there as a potential idea but there's no great consensus on what an "assault style" weapon is...but let's go with high-powered, semi-automatic rifles that can accept a detachable magazine holding more than five rounds of ammunition. speaking of...banning high capacity magazines.  these might not have prevented the highland shooting completely...but they could've help to reduce the carnage.

or maybe some sort of training requirement in order to purchase a firearm...like the test you need to pass to get a driver's permit. i'm just throwing out possibilities. there are others who study this stuff & have much more expertise than myself. i mostly make deek jokes & post memes.
