Agent23 Posted May 21, 2020 Posted May 21, 2020 Around 7am today everyone in our group here in Syracuse area (40-50 people?) received a 9am meeting invite. Our US-based group is HQ'd just outside MSP and now that we've all been kicked out of t he building we leased 3 weeks ago and are "homeless", they've decided the best course of action is to relocate our department to MN. We all have until the end of July to give our decision to stay or to leave. If people choose to not stay/relocate, they plan to keep them employed through July 2021. Anyone still working March 21 of next year will receive 15% of their salary as a "retention" bonus, and will receive a 5% salary raise at the point in time they begin working in MN (I think the people who move have through July 2021 to schedule/coordinate that as well). Figure anyone here that knows the area can lend some insight as to pros/cons of that region, or even placed that are better to target for housing, as I expect that I will choose to make the move.
paco Posted May 21, 2020 Posted May 21, 2020 Do you like Applebees? If so, you're in luck. Also, it is F'n COLD there. One day I was there it was negative 16. Finally, the people there will remind you they are "Minnesota Nice" every 16.2 minutes. 3 2
mikemack8 Posted May 21, 2020 Posted May 21, 2020 Cold as eff, football fans are whiny bishes, lots of lakes. That's all I got. 2 2

We we regularly in the negatives where I went to college but at least didn't have much wind to also deal with. But less snow than Syracuse, though our past few years have been modest. 1
hputenis Posted May 21, 2020 Posted May 21, 2020 I've actually never been there but have a close friend that lived there for 2 years. He spoke very highly of the city. I don't know if it's a great sports town, but he enjoyed going to Twins games (I think that's right next door in St. Paul). The obvious downfall is that it's cold as ballz 10 months a year, and it's a different cold than the northeast (I lived in Chicago for 2 years, and it punches you in the face). The bright side to that is that the entire city is designed to walk indoors. They have tunnels and connectors so your time spent outside during the bitter freezing months is limited if you want it to be. 3
DEagle7 Posted May 21, 2020 Posted May 21, 2020 It's a really clean and relatively fun city to be in. Absolutely beautiful place to live in the summer/spring. Prince lived there. But the stories about how cold it gets are not oversold. I have a family friend who relocated there who loves it, and a school friend who grew up there who is trying to go back when he can. But if you're not ok with long cold winter's or Midwest culture it's definitely not going to be for you. 2
The_Omega Posted May 21, 2020 Posted May 21, 2020 Good food. Seriously. And did anyone mention that it gets cold? Like, really cold? 1

20dawk4life Posted May 21, 2020 Posted May 21, 2020 I went out there for the eagles Vikings playoff game in 08. The city was real nice the one night I was there. The people can be annoying as f though. My company is based out of there as well and god dayum are they an annoying group. Oh and yea it's Fing cold. Like stupidly cold. The kind of cold that makes you say " yea one trip to this frozen sheet is enough" 1

bobeph Posted May 21, 2020 Posted May 21, 2020 My wife’s sister (no pics) used to live in Baldwinsville, NY just outside of Syracuse. Never went there in the winter, but they said it sucked. It was a totally different thing in the summer though. We took boat trips from there all the way into lake Ontario. That was fun sheet. Fun place in the summer if you like boating and boozing. Once saw a boat who’s owner named it "Phaaa-Que”
Captain F Posted May 21, 2020 Posted May 21, 2020 From the minimal amount of time I spent there in early February 2018, I can tell you this... Its cold that time of year. I mean, really cold. Not like Philly cold. It makes Philly cold seem springish. Its a ukn icebox. literally. Their public transportation is outstanding. They have a street level monorail system that goes pretty much everywhere and is on a honor system. Pay if you want, but no one checks. The people are very nice. I was a little surprised by this given the attire I wore while there, but everyone was really nice just about everywhere. The giant mall is pretty epic. Even for food, you have like 3492 options. I really only got to see the city, and went exploring over near the University of Minn campus. I did not see any real "hood" anywhere I went. Im sure its somewhere, but Im not sure where. Oh, and its really ukn cold in Feb. 1
