They still have the rivers to boat on, but Syracuse is much nicer. Boating into a city, especially a sheethole like Pittsburgh, isn’t as fun.

May 21, 20205 yr Been there for work a bunch during every season, Winter is pretty brutal at times, but as someone said, both Minneapolis and St Paul down towns are essentially human habitrail setups that you can walk miles in without stepping foot outside. They do have a decent light rail system that extends into the burbs. Definitely a mid-western city, people are actually nice, but beyond the downtown areas its just strip malls and developments and not a ton of things to do beyond hunting/fishing or golfing. High school hockey is WAY more important than high school football. Not sure why, but it seems like every time I've flown into that airport there, they're experiencing hurricane force winds and the plane is bobbing and weaving for the 15 minutes during approach.

I have a theory about this from living in Chicago, and it's probably even amplified if you go further north to a smaller city in the midwest. I don't know if people that were born and raised in the midwest are actually "nice." I think they might just be brain dead. They don't understand sarcasm, quick wit, or basically anything funny. It's like their funny neurons decided to stay dormant in their brain. The terrible accents don't help much either. I kid of course (kind of).........but thinking back, I don't think 1 person I knew or met from Chicago made me laugh once the entire 2 years I was there.

There sense of humor is basically the lamest version of a dad joke. I'm on a Minnesota based project right now and I hear s*** like "You working hard or hardly working, don't cha know" in that stupid accent. Its infuriating how lame they are
May 21, 20205 yr Oh... and yeah, I agree about the whole braindead thing. I was in a work shop sitting next to this one dude who never went further than a 10 mile radius from where he grew up. Someone handed him a babybel cheese to snack on. He tried to eat it with the wax wrapper still on it

Luckily I hired 3 chicks, but the 2 guys I hired both sounded exactly like Bill from "Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure." All 5 of them were born and raised in Chicago, and never left the area. I realize sarcasm is generally never a good idea in a leadership position, but the few times I was sarcastic about anything with this group it went over like a fart in church.

Our US-based group is HQ'd just outside MSP and now that we've all been kicked out of t he building we leased 3 weeks ago and are "homeless", they've decided the best course of action is to relocate our department to MN. We all have until the end of July to give our decision to stay or to leave. If people choose to not stay/relocate, they plan to keep them employed through July 2021. Anyone still working March 21 of next year will receive 15% of their salary as a "retention" bonus, and will receive a 5% salary raise at the point in time they begin working in MN (I think the people who move have through July 2021 to schedule/coordinate that as well). Figure anyone here that knows the area can lend some insight as to pros/cons of that region, or even placed that are better to target for housing, as I expect that I will choose to make the move. I forgot about this until now, but Best Buy is headquartered right outside of Minneapolis. Agent, are you by any chance a fan of movies, TVs, entertainment centers, soundbars, or anything related to the cinema?

Its cold that time of year. I mean, really cold. Not like Philly cold. It makes Philly cold seem springish. Its a ukn icebox. literally. Their public transportation is outstanding. They have a street level monorail system that goes pretty much everywhere and is on a honor system. Pay if you want, but no one checks. The people are very nice. I was a little surprised by this given the attire I wore while there, but everyone was really nice just about everywhere. The giant mall is pretty epic. Even for food, you have like 3492 options. I really only got to see the city, and went exploring over near the University of Minn campus. I did not see any real "hood" anywhere I went. Im sure its somewhere, but Im not sure where. Oh, and its really ukn cold in Feb. I still haven't been in the city in around a dozen visits there. The main highway that runs east-west south of the city, through the airport, takes a 90° turn and goes straight north maybe 10-15 miles west of downtown. Our HQ is located out there, so my visits have always been glued to that highway and staying at one of the hotels half a mile away from the office. 1 hour ago, hputenis said: I forgot about this until now, but Best Buy is headquartered right outside of Minneapolis. May 21, 20205 yr You live in a very nice area @Agent23. I was sad when my sis in-law left. Lots of fun things to do whether you like winter or not.
May 21, 20205 yr It’s cold and snows a lot. If you plan on flying October-April be prepared for a blizzard at anytime. everyone is right downtown is easy to get around and stay warm. The city itself has a lot to do, the mall of America is a giant mall with a small amusement park in it. great beer scene.
