I think I looked up demographics out of curiosity after I bought my house and its something like 97% white  Not that those people can't be arseholes too, but in general the area feels populated by people that just want to raise a family and stay out of drama.

Yeah, that was the vibe that I got.  They had a bunch of friends who all had boats.  We’d go out in my sis in-law’s boat, and next thing you know we’re tied up to a bunch of other boats just partying our faces off.  It was like a redneck river party, but with normal people.  Dang, I really miss it up there.  Get a boat so that I can come visit you.  We can be BFF’s and hang out with fat, middle aged drunk chicks in bikinis.

So I shouldn't visit for every day of my foreseeable future?

You have to do what is best for you obviously.. do you have comparable employment opportunities where you are?  Or can you find a job in an area that is an upgrade?

slim chance I find anything that offers same compensation range for similar levels of expectation/workload. I'm just under $90k a year now in salary (I will receive my first bonus with the company some time next month, so I'm not sure yet what that amount typically is) and literally just have 8-5 responsibilities in a role I really enjoy and thrive at.

For this area, I'm not sure any other role I take aside from something Managerial would offer similar levels of income, and then you most likely take on a lot more than a "show up between 8-5" responsibility/expectations... so that's one of those work/life/stress balances that I don't know if I want to take on.

Plus this is all independent from COVID and not knowing what hiring/interviewing/budgets look like at the moment. One of my friends who's been with Corning Inc for like 10+ years just got let go Tuesday because all the customers/manufacturers that use the filters and other projects they provide are no longer buying those and are taking drastic cuts based on COVID-imapact, so his whole dept. just got shut down. Lucky barstard gets paid full salary through thanksgiving though (and can collect unemployment pay on top of that)... so he's getting a nice paid vacation for the next 6 months, but will eventually have to find something else.

One positive that hasn't been mentioned yet:  Given Agents new dad bod, a move to Minnesota would make him one of the top 10 fittest men in his state.

I had never heard of or seen "Cheese Curds" until I went there.  Basically mutated mozzarella sticks...  Delicious deep fried cheesy goodness.

Sounds better than St. Louis's fried ravioli.

Deep fried is good. But having them fresh so they squeak is where it’s at

While I still got some inches on bung, I am not a tall male coming in 5'9, maybe 5'10 on a phenomenal posture day. I have spent MANY nights in Wisconsin over the years, over at least 10 separate visits, and EVERY bar I go to has at least half a dozen chicks taller than me, easily. And we BAR HOP each night! In upstate NY, and hell even in Boston, I might see an occasional woman now and then that I have to look up at, but in WI it just never ending.

I imagine MN is more of the same, so while my dad bod may be super hawt, not sure if the lack of not being 6'3" will be extra worse....

If you have nothing keeping you in Syracuse just move. Having a job that pays well and you enjoy isn’t easy to come by. Plus at that rate you can buy as many heaters as you need in Minnesota

House prices look "sticker shock” but when you dive into the financing details and the much cheaper property taxes, it looks like I could buy a house twice the price of my current one (with 20% down) and land a mortgage with the same term length and wind up with close to the same monthly payment.

Just show 'em a pic of your GSW decorated den with 5tvs and it will be all she wrote and all that will be left is for you to close

Make the move. Rent.  Get the raise and bonus. Stary a few months and find a new job to her out of that cold.

Looking like if you are white you should be fine

Minimal, which is why I don't want to take on a job that would add stress! Hell, most promotions are taking on 2x the workload, 5x the stress, for 25% more pay...

Most people do that because they have a pricey mortgage, kids to feed and clothe, and all these other things that force them down a road of chasing every extra penny they can get their hands on. I no longer am a slave to the $$$ so I want to maintain a job that keeps the stress and frustration at a minimum!

On a similar topic, my current guestimate is that 85% of the people based in our CNY office will NOT make the move and choose to leave the company for other employment... will be interesting to see exactly how many people leave and how soon they start dropping.

 i was just busting your balls.  i've dealt with super stressful jobs like that where 50-60+ hours per week are expected and there's no such thing as a day off w/o phone calls, etc.  it's turrible.  add a kid to the mix...and actually wanting to see them once in a while, go to their sports, school events, etc...and it's unbearable. it's the reason i left my previous job.

i'm actually going through a similar situation right now...boss is retiring next month & asked if i was interested in his job.  my short answer was hell no for all the reasons you mentioned.

I hear the Target is nice.

I hear they have 4 job openings in the police department

I hear the tear gas there is extra salty.
