How are things coming along with that? Still going down the adoption route, right?

We are. We just submitted our homestudy application which was 40 pages long, our autobiographies and 35 pieces of supporting documentation such as clearances, reference letters, bank statements, tax returns, etc. It was a lot of work especially during a pandemic which made some things that would normally be easy much more difficult. Right now we are in a waiting game - they have to process and present our application to the court for approval as well as schedule a home visit. In the meantime they send us potential matches as they come up. We could end up in a stork drop situation in which case we would have a baby in our home in a manner of days or weeks. Or it could take months. There is a lot of uncertainty in the process. It’s pretty stressful.

We are near Lancaster too. paco wants your car and has been talking about it for awhile but it’s not practical for us right now.  We will have to get rid of my MINI at some point because it’s not conducive to a car seat

What year and mileage?

also good luck.

That’s far more involved of a process than I ever would have known but glad to hear that you guys are past a lot of the technical aspects and time consuming activities.
Do either of your employer’s benefits packages contribute in any way when you do get your little one? I’ve seen it when skimming benefits packages with employers in the past (tho not paying much attention) but always found it nice that they provided an allowance to help cover some fees (maybe even as much as $5,000?).

If asking about mine, 2018 (bought late March 2019) with a bit under 9,500mi on it.
Previous owner is a frequent BMW shopper and swapped it for the X3 M.

Thank you! Unfortunately that part is only half the battle. If we get matched there is a ton of legal that goes into it and of course the stress of whether the birth parents will change their minds. That happened to my sister - and you don’t get back all of the money you spent.

We are fortunate that paco’s company reimburses $20k toward adoption expenses!

He has great benefits. So we only have to spend $30-35k of our own money. It’s pretty much a bargain!

Yeah believe me - it's not lost on us that many people have kids and take advantage of a system we pay into, meanwhile we spent close to 6 figures trying to have a baby and now this process may also end in failure and disappointment.   But having children is a blessing no matter the circumstances, and I think this path has just taught us to appreciate how special it is a little more.

Too new. I know someone looking for an older generation.

No need.  With the exception up changing up the MINI, we aren't in the market for a new vehicle anytime soon.

You gonna be upgrading that MINI with the VAN attachment.

If I wasn't fixed I'd have knocked up the Mrs. and donated the little Irish hellspawn to you for the low low price of free!

But it's so cute and you can tailgate out of it!  Are you looking for an older one as in a British one?  I love to drive it because it's a manual turbo and it's only 3 cylinders.  I don't want to give it up but we will probably trade it in for a MINI Countryman that has 4 doors for the whole car seat thing.

Meh...30 seconds of work for me.  NBD.  Not my problem after that!

But seriously good luck.  I find it unbelievable the amount of hoops and $$$ it takes to adopt.

Part of the reason I put up with all the travel and political bs from clients is the benefits.  They are unheard of.

I don't think I have any of the info still saved anywhere, but my california employer paid 100% of the costs for you (and a spouse) to be covered under their health insurance policy. So it was free healthcare for me and when I re-injured my surgically repaired knee, my MRI cost $50 for a co-pay. It was awesome.

seriously, why go through all that red tape? i respect bink and her puerto rican soul mate for perusing adoption but this avenue isn't for you, sir.

I"m licking the rim of a coffee mug and sending it to you  Fed Ex today, have your wife just place the ....she'll know what to do and i guarantee in 9 months you'll have a faint wisp of marlboros telling you it's time.
