Why do NFL teams not choose their starting QBs simply based on stats?

1.  I’ve read an article where every quarterback on the east coast right now has struggled from Boston to DC and Hurts hasn’t looked the worst out the bunch despite being paid less than all of them.

2. Oh and please this whole Foles putting in work talk is nonsense. I’m a huge fan, but let’s be honest. The guy hasn’t once nailed down a starting job his entire career.

3.  I don’t care about who tweets. I care about what happens in games. I’ll worry about Hurts when that time comes, but the bottom line is even before you knew what has been happening from some tweets in hour practices you heard stories about Jalen working. No praise from you though. Why would you?

4. You hate him, because he replaced your god.

1.  I don't care about other QB's, I care about the Eagles QB.  Other QB's struggling is irrelevant.  Is Jalen going to have a passing contest against Goff week 1.  No, he has to make plays to score points against the Detroit defense.

2.  Foles practiced and played hard, sometimes he got beat out by a better guy.  The comment that started this about being a "bad practice player" insinuated he did not work hard enough, which is false.

3.  You should care about tweets.  7v7 drills are used to practice passing plays, and if he is resorting to running, his offseason hard work means nothing.  If he is doing it in 7v7, you don't think he will do it in real games ??

4. I do not hate Jalen Hurts, I just don't think he will ever be a good enough NFL QB, I don't care how hard he works at it, some guys are just not good enough.  But yeah, go with the I hate him routine, like I don't have all these just in case he proves me wrong and the value sky rockets.

Edwards has been great and everyone else has been all over the place. Nobody will call for his head...yet XD

There is a similar stock article on CSN Philly. Minshew has just been referenced as throwing badly in most of the daily recap articles.

Hopefully Strong will improve with time and as we head to the pre-season.

Thanks for the link.  I'm just not seeing "pretty much every reporter" (your words) saying bad things about Strong and Minshew in what I am reading.  I don't really see either mentioned much (Strong very rarely), but its not surprising since the Eagles have Hurts in another "prove it" year. Those guys were never passing him with the experiment in full effect.

Naw it’s just some idiot clowns around here who read a few tweets and they lose their sheet is all.

Come on - I’m not your researcher. I’ve given you two articles which say Strong sucks at the moment. I’ve read others, but he’s not a big deal, because he’s not really relevant. He’s an UDFA who may make the team or may make the practice squad.

I personally hope he gets better.

I'm a fan of Strong, but it's coming from camp he has struggled. New to NFL, throwing to guys who won't make a roster. Should be put on IR and stash away for next year. Has the arm and all, but isn't putting much together this last week.  McMullen and Brooks have both said he has struggled.

Appreciate that from a Strong fan. Let him play in the preseason and if he doesn’t improve significantly let’s stash him. Shouldn’t be hard with his medical history.

LOL.  I should have known better than to engage.  I've read tons of articles, but only a few even mention Strong or Minshew.  Hurts is the guy this year...no surprise. Minshew and Strong were never passing him (though some wanted that).  You've found two out of hundreds.  "Pretty much every reporter"...yeah, OK.  All good.

Just give it up. Seriously. Even one of Strong’s biggest fans has conceded and given you another couple of Eagles guys who have said he has struggled.

Hurts may well not be the guy. But he is unchallenged right now on this roster.

Give up what?  There's not alot out there about the other QBs and NO ONE in their right mind thought either guy was taking Hurts' place in the preseason.  You are trying to create an argument that I am not making.

Unchallenged doesn't make him safe, just means he has the job on lock for now. We go into the bye with 2 or 3 wins and he looks like the reason why, someone else may get a look. I think the defense will carry this team. They are making everyone look bad right now...which as Philly fans we Fing love a dominant defense, but as we are trying to figure out the QB situation it's like....can...can you let him throw it?

Hurts getting replaced mid-season?....that's REALLY, really unlikely to happen, no matter how bad he plays, because of these reasons:

1. Like you said, we can just rely on the defense, and go back to the same run-heavy offense, exactly what we did last year, to win games. I'm positive with the weak schedule and weak division, we can easily get into the playoffs again just by doing the exact same thing as last year and with mediocre QB play.

2. There is no one in this org with the balls to bench Hurts. No one. There's no Ray Rhodes here.

3. Hurts is popular with his teammates unlike Wentz. And he's a lot better at doing PR and saying the right things than Wentz.

So my prediction is that no matter what happens, the chances of Hurts getting benched this season is almost zero no matter how much sense it would make.....the management will just ride it out and take the easy and less controversial way out by drafting a QB next year.

This is exactly how it will go down.  Howie will never let him be benched or replaced by any of the other three.  We are stuck with him - good or bad - and we've known it for months.

I hope you are right on the D. Gannon was hopeless against top 10 QBs last year, but hopefully the increase in talent will mean he can make their life a bit more difficult.

They want to open it up a little with Hurts now. They didn't bring AJ Brown in to block. I expect more passing than last year. Hurts getting benched mid-season is really unlikely. It seems pretty clear that Strong needs a lot of work. You don't get UDFA QB who are ready to start in their first year. Hopefully they find a way to stash him.

Ultimately none of the QBs on this roster are seen as the realistic future other than Hurts. He's going to get every chance. Only way he gets benched is if we have a championship level D and he is stinking it up to the point that we have more of a chance with Minshew. That's unlikely.

The talent for the defense is there and making everyone on the offense work for everything right now.  AJ Brown hasn't had an easy snap with slay. They are the highlight of camp right now.  Top 3 corners could be a top 5 corner group in the league. What I'm concerned about is how miles keeps breaking loose for big runs. Really hoping it's because they are having a softer camp when it comes to contact. I don't think we are going to be able to judge our offense until another team shows up. I think Hurts wont start all 17 if he plays like he did last year. Habits die hard and he is comfortable with read and go. The left side of the field and the middle of the field really need some focus and fast...problem with practicing against the 1s is Edwards and White are stingy as hell and trying to prove their worth and Bradberry isn't letting anyone get anything. Again, can't wait to see this defense on the field. With the offense, Hurts spreads the ball better and gets the ball out faster (holds the ball way way too long) we may be okay. So far in camp he has been late getting it out. Let's see what happens this week

I disagree with the bold btw. Hurts and Minshew will most likely be fringe starters, amazing back ups for a long time like fitz and Taylor. One is the runner type, the other the drop back type of back up...but both still just backup/fringe starters

It's because of some chick named Anne Lytics.....

Well in that case I'm not really sure why you picked up on it in the first place. Strong reports have been clearly negative and it's not just from one or two guys. He needs time for sure. Struggling to make the team at the moment. Hopefully he picks it up, but a IR stash after pre-season might make sense.

And no, nobody thought either guy was beating out Hurts in the pre-season. I wouldn't quite go as far as RTK, but the blog has a number of people stating that Strong (and Minshew and pretty much everyone of the top 6 rookies in some cases) are better passers than Hurts and that the Eagles would be better off with them. Hurts is clearly throwing the ball better than Strong or Minshew at the moment.

Preseason sadness

The joint practices are what really matters in training camp.

It's comical that people are pointing to Hurts' college career, and using that as NFL experience.  And I don't care what you think of Alabama, they aren't an NFL team. They'd get mopped by the majority, if not all of the teams in the NFL.

Gotta have a reason to hate the guy at all times, and make excuses for all the guys they love at the same time.
