Not who you want, but what you think Howie will do.

Teams need to trim rosters to 53 by Tuesday, August 30 at 4:00 p.m. ET.

OFFENSE (23):

QB (2):  Hurts, Minshew

RB (3):  Sanders, Scott, Gainwell

WR (6):  Brown, Smith, Watkins, Pascal, Reagor, Allen

TE (3):  Goedert, Stoll, Calcaterra

OL (9): Mailata, Dickerson, Kelce, Seumalo, Johnson, Dillard, Jurgens, Opeta, Anderson

DEFENSE (27):

DE/DT (9):  Cox, Hargrave, Graham, Davis, Williams, Sweat, Barnett, Jackson, Tuipulotu

LB (7):  Reddick, Edwards, White, Dean, Bradley, P.Johnson, K.Johnson

CB (6):  Slay, Bradberry, Maddox, McPhearson, Jobe, Scott

S (5):  Epps, Harris, Tartt, Chachere, Blankenship

STs (3):

Elliott, Siposs, Lovato

EDIT: inadvertently skipped Driscoll … I do think he makes it and likely keep 10 OL now.  Guessing at the expense of Blankenship.

That's pretty much exactly how I see it

@Timetorock - I think you missesd Jack Driscoll. I don't think there is a chance in hell they cut him. To make room I thnk they only keep 4 safeties.

A couple surprises -

  • Taylor being cut
  • Allen over Covey

27 on defense and 23 on offense seems out of whack,, but I think if you added Driscoll its closer to be balanced.

Yes, I just noticed that I inadvertently skipped Driscoll.  I do think he makes it and likely carry 10 OL.  And you are probably right … will likely be at the expense of a S.  Guessing that means Blankenship is out.  I think they like Chachere more for his STs play.  I don’t think Tartt looked good at any time this preseason but if going by what we feel they will do, it likely means he sticks and Blankenship is cut.  I’d do the opposite.

I agree to keep Anderson.  He's a valuable back up and all 3 interior OL positions and he'd get claimed if waived.  Blankenship has to make the roster.  Trade Reagor and a pick for the Raven's safety, have to man up and cut 2nd round bust Taylor and the 4th round bust safety.  A year from now we can cut USC 6th round DT unless he improves.  They say he has.  I'll believe it when I see it in games. We are gonna need to add a big RB sometime this year

Driscoll makes it for sure.  The only viable back-up RT.

Blankership, they should keep.  Tartt has not shown much and costs more.  Cut him now, there will be better options later on.

Cain needs to stay on this team somehow.

I think he makes it. Worst case he ends up on the PS until Reagor is traded

If you know Howie...He has a trade or two up his sleeves. I suspect it will be a Safety or a completely unexpected position do not want to guess.

I think Cain makes it before Allen does.

Kept 23 on offense, dropped Allen for Driscoll. Allen seems like a perfect ps guy, and I doubt another team burns a roster spot on him. Deon Cain is a tough cut, but it's pretty much the same deal with Allen. Typically the guys who get poached are late-round draft picks like Epps and Scott who get caught in a numbers game, not guys who have bounced around for a while.

On defense, I added Taylor and Wallace and dropped Chachere and Blankenship. I can't see anyone poaching our ps for a safety (if anything, we should be poaching players from other teams at that spot), and draft picks seem to have nine lives here, which is why Taylor and Wallace stay.

In addition to Tartt, Strong, and Huntley, it is being reported that Cameron Tom, Josh Blackwell, and Renell Wren are being released.

Quote

Jaquiski Tartt was once thought to be an exciting safety signing, but he’s one of the Eagles’ first cuts, according to Adam Caplan. The veteran from the 49ers missed some practice time for personal reasons and never really stood out.

• The Eagles released center Cameron Tom, according to Aaron Wilson of ProFootballNetwork. Tom was a UDFA back in 2017 and has bounced around with a few different teams.

• One of the most curious cases all summer was Carson Strong, who is being released according to Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports. Strong barely played in the preseason despite getting $320,000 guaranteed, by far the most of any of the Eagles’ UDFAs. The Nevada product talked about his summer after Saturday’s preseason game.

• Running back Jason Huntley is being released, according to Mike Kaye of ProFootballNetwork. Huntley spent last season on the Eagles’ practice squad and broke off a long touchdown run in the preseason finale.

• For the second time in week, the Eagles are waiving CB Josh Blackwell, according to Wilson. The Eagles released Blackwell last week but then re-signed him a couple days later for practices in Miami and the third preseason game.

• The Eagles are releasing DT Renell Wren, according to Caplan. Wren is a former fourth-round pick who played in 12 games for the Bengals.

I'm a little late with some guys being released, but here goes:

QB (2): Hurts and Minshew -- I just think Sinnett played himself out of a roster spot

RB (3): Sanders, Gainwell and Scott -- Jordan Howard is just a call away

WR (6): Brown, Smith, Watkins, Pascal, Reagor, Allen -- yeah, I think Allen is a gunner on special teams and Reagor isn't worth the cap hit to cut

TE (3): Goedert, Stoll, Calacaterra

OL (10): Mailata, Dickerson, Kelce, Seumalo, Johnson, Dillard, Jurgens, Opeta, Driscoll, Anderson -- go heavy here and maybe Dillard gets moved before week 1

Total Offense: 24

DE (4): Graham, Sweat, Barnett, Jackson

DT (5): Cox, Hargrave, Williams, Davis, Tui

Edge (3): Reddick, Johnson, Johnson

LB (5): White, Edwards, Dean, Taylor, Bradley

CB (5) Slay, Bradberry, Maddox, McPhearson,  Scott -- Jobe was my last cut

S (4): Epps, Harris, Wallace, Blankenship

Total Defense: 26

Specialists (3): Duh

The Carson Strong saga is yet another odd chapter in Eagles lore.

I agree with you on Allen ... I think he showed his worth on STs the other night - that's what led me to predict they'll want to keep him.

Glad Tartt is gone.  I included him only because I thought they may want a vet as depth (even though he showed absolutely nothing).

I probably should have included Taylor too ... have a hard time thinking Howie will cut ties with a recent 3rd round pick.  But if it were me making the call he'd be gone and Jobe would stick.

I think Taylor sticks based on numbers at linebacker, draft position and he showed promise during the 2021 regular season.

I really think Jobe should make it, but I guess Anderson or Allen go in that case. Maybe Jobe makes the 53, then put on IR the next day (so he can come back during the season) and Anderson gets cut and brought back?

No big surprise here.

I think he'd be great for ST and am not sold on him as a WR past a gimmick. Can they afford to not only carry a gunner on the 52, but dress him every week? That probably means going one short on OL/DL for games.

The legendary Carson Strong. 300k free for a few weeks of being a water boy.

Jobe should stick at the expense of the 4th safety.  Especially if they keep Josiah Scott because he can fill in both spots.

They brought in a million young CB's for a reason - Jobe stood out from them all.
