I would usually bump the Memorial Day thread that I made a few years ago, but we were all evicted from the old EMB so I'll make a new thread.

We remember and honor those American Soldiers, Marines, Sailors, Airmen and Coast Guardsmen (and women, of course) who laid down their lives in service to their nation.

I am extremely grateful for their sacrifices.

well done 👍

Thanks so much for posting that!

Today is not a "Happy" holiday.

Remembering the fallen - THOSE WHO GAVE ALL.

My flag flies at half mast today.

Amen.  Mine as well...

Thank you to all that have served so I can be a lazy F posting on the EMB.

Arlington is a powerful place. Hard to talk in anything above a whisper. My wife's nephew was interred there seven years ago.

My wife is one of the nicest people in the world and is always adopting stray friends in need. She met a Viet Nam vet at a folk music show - has stomach cancer and his only family is a tightly wound sister with trouble dealing with "issues" - the wife got him on hospice and cooks broth and stuff for him, takes him things he can't get for himself. I swear half of every meal she makes she delivers to somebody in the area.

He asked me to arrange his burial at Arlington. I think he's good with being cremated and his ashes interred there. I told him it was an honor to be able to help. The process is simple, but I imagine the backlog is going to be longer than the usual 6 months with COVID going on.

Semper Fi Pat!

One of my coworkers was buried at Arlington last fall; it took over a year from his death to when he was buried there.

RIP

I have a feeling Pat will have a long wait. He just got into the VA hospital for his stomach issues when COVID hit and they basically sent him home with nothing. Difficult times.

The Army proposed changes for eligibility to be buried at Arlington last autumn; it will be much more restrictive for in-ground burial, less so for inurnment.  AFAIK the changes are still under review and haven't been adopted yet; the review process for the changes was supposedly 9 to 10 months long.

Another Memorial Day is upon us.

Take a moment to think about those who gave up everything for us.
