September 3, 20223 yr I’m not buying that Carson Strong doesn’t belong on a practice squad somewhere. My money is on Jalen Hurts’ ego couldn’t handle a QB with a better arm in the room, so Eagles gave Strong the cold shoulder.

I don’t Iike Hurts as our longterm QB, he’s just the best we could do right now. Not anointing Hurts and accepting that Carson Strong is a future gas station employee are not mutually exclusive.

Knee slappers like this are the real reason they couldn't keep Carson Strong around.
September 6, 20223 yr Author Quote Eagles, Anthony Harris reportedly agree to cut ties The Eagles have mutually agreed to part ways with Anthony Harris, their starting safety all last year and through training camp, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. The 30-year-old Harris, who played for Eagles defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon with the Vikings in 2014 and 2015, started 14 games last year after signing a one-year contract. He signed another one-year deal this past spring after a brief foray into free agency but despite working all summer with the starting defense was released on final cutdown day soon after the Eagles acquired 24-year-old defensive back Chauncey Gardner-Johnson from the Saints. Harris surprisingly signed a day later to the Eagles’ practice squad, where he’s been since Aug. 31. According to Schefter, the Eagles are planning to formally release Harris from the practice squad to "maximize his flexibility to join another teams’ active roster.” That seems unusual considering that players on practice squads are technically free agents and free to sign with any other team. It also seems unusual considering that Harris just signed to the Eagles’ practice squad a week ago, but he possibly had a change of heart about his future. Harris, an undrafted free agent out of Virginia, spent his first six seasons with the Vikings, starting 47 games. He has 10 interceptions and 356 tackles in seven seasons. With the Eagles last year he had one interception and 72 tackles. https://www.nbcsports.com/philadelphia/eagles/eagles-anthony-harris-reportedly-agree-cut-ties We now have an open spot on the practice squad.

Yikes.
September 7, 20223 yr Book is the 3rd QB now. Perine is a quick release. He was with the team for a week and enough to know he is not the RB. The FO keeps churning players in and out. No words on the OT to fill in for Dillard. Perhaps they will move one from PS for the Lions game and keep situation fluid.
September 7, 20223 yr Sinnett and Perine agreed to join the PS before the Eagles claimed Book and Sermon on waivers. Once they were claimed, they were superfluous.

Honestly now that the activity seems to have slowed down a bit league wide, hoping we can cut Book and add him to the practice squad as a potential developmental QB (not that I have much faith in him becoming anything at this level but better to burn a spot on the practice squad to carry him vs the main 53).

I think they see Book as a future QB2 that can run the same plays as Hurts. It seems doubtful we'll trade Minshew this season and it's even more doubtful he'll re-sign with us after the season. So if the Eagles commit to Hurts beyond this season, grooming a future#2 with a similar skill set on a rookie contract would be prudent. Book will still likely be inactive most weeks. I'm not sure what the Eagles would gain by having a different inactive player on the 53.

I mean Denver kicked the tires on Strong and nothing. Denver QB Room looks like this: Russell Wilson Brett Rypien....wait, wha? Josh Johnson from San Diego on the Practice Squad. This guy was drafted in 2008 and has been passed around over 20+ times in his career. This guy beat out your boy Carson Strong for a Practice Squad spot and you still aren't "buying that Carson Strong doesn't belong on a practice squad somewhere"? What will it take. He might actually be not good. There seems to be plenty of people who do it for a living that apparently don't see the averageness in his game that you do. They don't even see the potential for him to be better than Josh Johnson... or even Ian freaking Book.

I had high hopes for him, but now I’m just pulling for him. Book is fine for QB3. Strong is more of a QB4 right now. But, one day…Carson Strong is gonna make the PS somewhere, maybe. XFL? CFL?

I think he waits for his next year training camp invite, and if that doesn’t work out then CFL becomes an option. Backup QBs there make a small fraction of what his rookie guarantees were

I still think a lot of this decision hinges on Hurts. If he convinces the team he's the long term answer at QB, they want to have a backup that they can bring in and run the same offense. This, IMO, shows me they have faith in Hurts becoming the franchise QB.

But it could also mean that they prepare for Hurts to miss a few games this year due to his style of play.
September 8, 20223 yr They stole Ian Book off the Saints. They also put a waiver claim in on Kellen Mond. It was just about liking Book and Mond more than Sinnett. Maybe prepping for Minshew's eventual departure. I don't think anyone bets on QB1 getting hurt, but Minshew is there if we need him.
