The NFL is currently in the part of the season where only the top 51 salaries count against the cap. Using that metric the Eagles have a little less than $2M in cap room.

Next week, the NFL starts counting all contracts and the Eagles cuirent situation will put them $2.4M over the cap.

The only contracts than can be restructured / extended to yield that much space are: Lane Johnson, Javon Hargrave and Isaac Seumalo. Jiggering with Jake Elliott could get like $1M back depending on what they do, but otherwise we're relying on doing something with the first 3 to get under the cap.

The Eagles have more than $60M in dead money this year and will enter 2023 with more than $50M in dead money before any other moves are made this year. 😕

Q: "Mirror mirror, on the shelf, who is more sexy than myself?"

A: "Nobody" would be the correct answer.

If there's one thing we do not need to worry about it is Howie getting under the cap. There's no issue, there's nothing to see here.

He'll get under the cap ... at the expense of future cap.  But so far it is a strategy that seems to work (i.e. it hasn't really prevented us from making the moves needed to assemble a competitive team).  Although I do think it will be quite a bit more challenging when he eventually needs to pay a QB $35-45M/year.

If Howie wins another SB, do we build a statue of him?

No. He buys the tools, but he doesn't use them.

And not "if"... When!!

https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/cap/    (they have already moved to all contracts)

https://overthecap.com/salary-cap-space   (still in top-51 mode)

Those two are the most accurate... have no idea where the $185k number is coming from

My concern stems not from the amount that the Eagles are over the cap but from the fact that there are very few players contracts left with which to get cap space back. If any of them play hardball with contract negotiations (I have no doubt that Hargraves "toe injury" is part of ongoing negotiations), it's going to be a tough spot for the Eagles.

Do you honestly think Howie, HOWIE.... doesn't know what's going on. Dude is usually 3 steps ahead of other GMs, and probably 20 steps ahead of us "Joes".

I thought I saw that number prior to the Reagor trade which should have freed up space

The salary cap isn't tough and they will get under it. They can always convert salaries to bonuses and kick the can down the road.

Lol at the Giants being on this list even though they don't have any good players.

Take one of the contracts with 3 years remaining. Convert $1M to a bonus - that saves $667 this year and adds $333 to the next 2 years or take a contract with 2 years remaining and convert $1M - saves $500K this year and adds $500K next year.

Finished business!

Agreed. It only becomes a problem when the cap goes down like it did during covid. And yeah it'll be more challenging when he has to give a QB that big contract. But by then I guess he'll have moved on from guys like Cox who to be fair are overpaid.

I don’t know who she is either. Just a random pretty girl holding a wand.

It'll be Lane... he's the only contract where they can convert base to signing bonus and get the room. Seumalo or Hargrave would have to be extensions.

There are no other player contracts that can do it. They don't just need $2.4M they need at least $3.4 just to have some wiggle during the season.

A whole thread about a $185k salary adjustment.  Seriously?
