JORDAN DAVIS TAKES THE TOP SPOT IN PFF’S ROOKIE RANKINGS FOR WEEK 3

It took a few weeks, but Eagles rookie DT Jordan Davis is starting to live up to the hype.

Facing off against a beat up Washington offensive line in Week 3, Jordan Davis saw 24 snaps of action (his largest workload this season) and put forth his best effort to date. He tallied two combined tackles, along with four pressures and four hurries on Carson Wentz.

Davis finished the day with a Pro Football Focus grade of 90.2 as well as a 90.9 pass rushing grade, the highest single-game marks he’s posted through three games and the second-best PFF grade of any Eagles defender in Week 3.

In PFF’s weekly NFL rookie rankings, Davis found himself at the top of the list, ahead of Jermaine Johnson, Chris Olave, and Devin Lloyd.

PFF on why Jordan Davis sits atop their Week 3 rookie rankings:

"Davis continues to eat in a rotational role. He looked more confident using his get-off as a pass-rusher in Week 3, and he was too much for the Commanders’ interior to handle at the snap of the ball. Davis finished with four pressures on only 14 pass-rushing snaps. There are some reps where it’s impossible to figure out how someone can be expected to block him, and it’s amazing to watch.”

Davis’ snap count still hovers around 25 snaps per game, which was always to be expected for the former Georgia Bulldog. He averaged about the same amount of snaps in college, but he was so dominant in his limited exposure that he warranted a first-round grade, and now some of that unworldly ability is beginning to flash on the NFL stage.

The Eagles have the luxury of utilizing Davis whenever they see fit, rather than relying on him to start and play upwards of 40-50 snaps per contest. Davis’ role as a rotational lineman should help his development in the long run.

On the season, Davis has played 67 defensive snaps, about 32 percent of the defensive snap share. Even though his defensive impact is becoming more evident, Jonathan Gannon and Co. will likely keep Davis as a rotational piece for the time being.

The team’s plan with Jordan Davis has clearly paid off thus far. If he continues to terrorize opposing offensive lines, his snap count may increase as the season progresses.
