Since he doesn't have any guaranteed money left on his deal the Eagles can walk away without a nickel in dead money or they can restructure if they decide he can help them going forward. Furthermore, the Bears are paying all but $700k of his salary for the rest of this year. What am I missing?

NFL players get a game check each week of the season, even bye weeks, and there's nothing in the CBA that says a player can't play in more than 17 games. And I would think he would beg to get out on that field with his new teammates at home this Sunday.

Going to be difficult to keep all the key guys, but nobody thought Howie would do what he did this last offseason with signings, draft picks and the salary cap issues. I'm confident Howie is more than 2 years ahead of anything we can think of. And I'm not exaggerating. 1 hour ago, wyote said: Bold prediction: He gets 2 sacks this weekend. Doubt he plays. This will be his bye week. And most likely will be limited in his role on Thursday. But I do agree I think coming to a 6-0 team will get his "juices" flowing.

I kinda get the thinking ... a lot of impending free agents therefore a need to fill a lot of holes. But we are likely to see Howie wheel and deal to add more draft picks considering we have 2 in round 1 and we appear to have as wide open a window to make a run at a championship than we have in a few years (since 2018), so Howie is trying to maximize our chances now. Worth the pick IMHO.

We all love the concept of draft picks...until those picks turn into human beings. That's when they get injured or play poorly or are "undersized but with a high motor". At this moment in time, I'll take an elite veteran sack artist, who also is a motivational locker room leader, over the 140th pick in the 2023 draft all day long. And when you factor in the total lack of negative impact on the cap? It's a no-brainer.

The only player on the 53-man roster getting paid less is Britain Covey. It's probably safe to set aside the hand-wringing and appreciate this for what it is: another brilliant move by the best roster management executive in the NFL and a solid step toward winning it all RIGHT NOW.

We have 17 free agents and 10 of them are starters. We're staring a mega contract for Jalen Hurts in the eye which will limit out ability to resign our own and buy on the free agent market. Now we're limiting our ability for replacements through the draft also. Will Quinn help - yes. Did we really need him - maybe/maybe not. does it impact our off-season restocking of the roster - yes. Was the trade-off worth it - I don't know, but I'm concerned.

The Eagles still have an abundance of quality picks next year: 2 1sts, including a likely top-5 pick from the Saints, a 2nd, a 3rd, and 2 7ths. And Hurts still has another year on his rookie contract at less than $2 million so even if they sign him to a long-term contract, the deal can be structured to maintain his minimal cap hit. And don't rule out Howie making another deal before Monday's deadline to restock the proverbial draft pond.
October 27, 20222 yr 3 hours ago, Rob331 said: I do - next year matters too A 4th is nothing if it bolsters the pass rush, and they go deep in the playoffs. This is an all-in team for this year. There might even be another move before the trade deadline. Howie always figures out the contracts with extensions, moving money into signing bonus, etc. He will collect additional draft picks from comp picks, trading back maybe even trading players. Totally worth trading a 4th for Quinn. Your argument is bad.

He spent 2 or 3 offseasons correcting that, and there will always be some dead money but now it's manageable. Last season there was concern about the dead money and salary cap and then Howie did the following: Traded for AJ Brown and renegotiated his contract Signed Bradberry to solidify the corner position Re-signed Barnett but as a depth role to lower salary Traded for CJG to solidify the safety position Traded a 4th for Quinn and got the Bears to pay most of his salary He even cut then re-signed Cox as part of a plan for future cap Every year fans worry about the cap, and every year Howie moves things around to make it work. Again, I've been very critical of Howie but in the last 2 years he's back on track with a solid plan. I guarantee you he will end up restructuring current players that aren't set to become free agents which will free up cap space on certain years. He will turn some money into signing bonus to free up cap space. He does it every year.

October 27, 20222 yr Last year, everybody was worried about the eagles cap space and whether they could sign any impact free agents. Even though they had 3 first round selections, nobody believed he'd use them all. And nobody thought they were going to come out and look this good. I believe Howie has scenarios for not only the upcoming offseason, but the next 2-3 years. If this team drives deep into the playoffs or wins the super bowl, he's going to make a hard push to keep as much of it together as he can. If the saints sh-- the bed and end up giving the eagles a top 5 pick, he's going to parlay that into a bunch of picks and/or players. Plus he has some trade capital..... I doubt howie is the kind that wakes up on the morning of the start of free agency and says "sh--, that's due today....."
