I hope you're right, but havemy doubts.

Most QB's on thier first contract with good perfromance insist on a new deal as soon as they are conractually allowed, If we don't re-sign Hurts this off-season we could be facing drama as in will he play or won't he play without a new deal.

He can still sign a new contract without paying him all that money next year. They did it with Wentz's contract.

What about Jalen Hurts makes you think he would cause drama or hold out and refuse to play?  What about Howie and the way he operates makes you think he won't extend Hurts early to avoid a more expensive contract later?  What about Howie's history makes you think he won't negotiate the contract and spread out the cap impact per year and put money into a signing bonus in a way that is favorable to both parties, plus allows him flexibility for other players?

Nothing.  All evidence is against your anxiety about this.

Things will need to play themselves out if or when the team tenders a new contract offer to Quinn, to Hurts.  Still 11 games to play, and a lot can happen between now and the end of the season.

They can sign him to a long-term deal beginning in February. If they do, they'll still keep his base salary low in 2023 and give him millions as a bonus. While he gets all the cash right away, the Eagles can amortize the expense over the length of the contract, minimizing his 2023 cap hit.  That's what every team does.

Exactly.

So basically Quinn is a one year rental for a 4th. A 4th is worth sacrificing if it can get you a trip to the bowl.

According to ESPN, Quinn will start over Josh Sweat.

Robert Quinn is 33 next year and wanted his contract voided because 12m$ a year wasn’t close to enough as he made perfectly clear in training camp this summer. We don’t need to worry about what kind of tender is necessary to retain RQ. He’s a rental in the truest form of the word

As if they know.
I always think of them more as BSPN.

I hope you're right, but lets remember and go way back to the original point. 17 free agents, 10 of which ar starters, an impending Hurts contract and only 5 draft picks. That is an issue for me.

At a minimum the sighing bonus gets prorated into next year's cap.

The Eagles currently have six picks in next year's draft, not five. They have four picks in the first three rounds, including one that might be in the top ten. I think they'll be okay.

I'm fine with a guy that talented playing with motivation for his next contract

Didn’t see him much today but he hasn’t really had time to practice with the team much. He’ll get more playing time as the season goes on.

Only thing I saw him do was an offsides penalty.

I thought he had a couple nice pass rushes today. This one was right after the penalty.

He had a couple nice pressures. Dude just got to the team, plus he won't have a bye week, so I'm sure those 2 reasons are why he has limited snap counts.

Voiding the remaining years means we get comp picks if he walks right?

Trader Howie knows all the angles!

No, unfortunately.

Seems like every year we worry about Howie and the cap, and most of those years it turns out fine. Right now the Eagles are undefeated. Worry about….correction enjoy the now.

They'll be fine with 6 picks. Doesn't that depend on how many of their own 19 free agents (10 starters) they resign.

It didn't work out fine in 2021  - amazing how short our memories are.

Is this team better or worse than the 2021 team?

This one is but if you go back to the beginning of the topic the discussion is about what happens next year with limited draft picks, a lagre mumber of free agents, and a mega contract for the quarterback.

Mostof thecounter opinions have completely missed that as being the point.

Not sure what this means.  The 6 draft picks they have are not dependent on free agents they let walk or re-sign. Unless you mean they won't be "ok" if they don't re-sign enough of their free agents (they will).

Comp picks can be added but the 6 they have are theirs unless they trade them.  I wouldn't be surprised if Howie uses one of the 1st round picks to trade back, especially the Saints high pick.  Lure some team into trading up and move a bit later in the 1st and collect an additional pick as well.

This started with you whining about a 4TH round pick, and then complaining they have all these free agents and they need picks to replace them.  First of all, if this move helps them in the playoffs and especially if they win the SB who cares?  Go all in.  Trade for a RB too, go for it.

Having said that, many posters have repeatedly reminded you that people have worried about contracts over the years and Howie always figures that out.  So you're just repeating worry despite the facts and evidence presented to you.
