He latched onto conspiracy theories pushed by our own elected officials. No amount of gloss will change that. He would have latched onto something else sooner or later. It's what they do. 11 hours ago, VanHammersly said: I don't think anyone's suggesting that this was some sort of organized operation. Just that this crazy person was radicalized by people who have shown reckless disregard for who they're infecting with their lies and what those (often unstable) people might do once radicalized. And then, as the cherry on top, the same people organized a campaign to attack the victim of the crime the guy committed based on their lies. Honestly, their campaign against the victim is the most disgusting part of it all because it shows that there is no bottom for these scumbags. The people spouting this stuff are crazy in the first place, and you expect them to not be crazy? Who's the crazy person now? It was an EDP who happened to attack a political figures spouse, and both sides jump to politicize it without actually seeing it for what it is. Crazy people are crazy. Regardless of if they are selling crazy or buying crazy.

November 2, 20222 yr These crazy people are given targets by elected officials. It isn't a coincidence.

"Yeah, maybe this guy was driven by the dumb sh** Trump says but he would have eventually found another cult anyway so let's not politicize it"
November 2, 20222 yr If we're talking about this specific case, sure maybe the guy was cracked and it was a matter of time before he took a hammer to some innocent. But you still have the problem of an entire industry built around fomenting anger and fear for political gain. They're quite consciously coaxing the crazies over the line as one leg of their strategy to frighten the other side. And when something like this happens right wing conspiracy world manufactures one narrative after another about how this is really the fault of the left. This guy needs mental health treatment. Sure. But that doesn't inoculate those on the right who have worked to exploit these unstable individuals and quietly (or increasingly loudly) root for them to inflict violence on political opponents.

Yeah let's equate a large scale geopolitical problem that's been going on since before Lawrence rallied tribes against the Ottomans to MAGA. Totally the same thing and not at all an over simplification.

November 2, 20222 yr Suspect accused of politically motivated attack on Paul Pelosi was 'completely caught up in the fantasy, in the MAGA fantasy,' his boss says Frank Ciccarelli, a carpenter in Berkeley, California, told the Times he worked with the suspect, David DePape, for about six years. Ciccarelli said DePape began to spend more time online over the last few years, engulfed in right-wing conspiracy theories, as per the news outlet. "If you got him talking about politics, it was all over," Ciccarelli said. "Because he really believed in the whole MAGA, 'Pizzagate,' stolen election — you know, all of it, all the way down the line. If you go to Fox News, if you go on the internet and you look at QAnon, you know, he had all these theories."
