Dogs are great... if you like smelly servile groveling companions.

Meow.

about a week ago, our dog decided that she's afraid of her food bowls...hell, all food bowls. same exact bowls in the same exact location filled with the same exact food she has eaten for the past 4 years. dog's are loyal...but they're also f'ing stupid.

Our first family dog is showing those signs.  He’s soon to be 13.  We have a Vet appointment on Friday.  He’s barely drinking.  Not eating much at all the past few days and won’t eat this morning.  We’re just trying to keep him comfortable.  His favorite blanket does the trick.  My wife is dealing with it well, for now.  She’s going to be a mess though if we can’t get him back to some normalcy.

good dog. Name so i can put him in my prayers ?

on a side note, i believe i have the fastest dog in the world (or am still getting used to game dogs):
Sunday night and I'm dealing with work. Kelcey starts whining and jetting back and forth between the livingroom and the back door. This  usually means her squirrel friend is on the fence and she (Kelcey) wants at it. Finally i give up and just open the door. Kelcey races for the back fence and disappears in the dark. I close the door and head to the kitchen for that shot of cabo wabo i so deserve after dealing with these idiots in our Gulf Coast division. Then the three point perfect mental storm kicks in:

  1. Wait....squirrels aren't nocturnal
  2. But, OH crap SKUNKS ARE
  3. INTENSE VAPOR WAVE COMES IN THROUGH WINDOW

I quickly lock the door, instruct everyone to NOT let her in and head up to grocery store for peroxide. I get home and the house has the scent clearly (but not overpowering), mix up the formula (4cps peroxide, 1/4cp baking soda, 2tsp dish soap) and proceed to bathe her. 5 minutes go by after hitting her with the formula and I rinse her off. I'm shocked because there is no smell at all. Then i get to her hind quarters and check her tail....there's the slightest scent on the back 1/4 of her tail (where i hadn't gone with the formula) and that's it. Seems she ran at the skunk, remembered what they had for ammunition and turned at the last second, getting only the tip of her tail.

they still have dog tracks in Jersey ?

Is her collar clanging against the bowl?  If it is, try taking it off and see if that helps

nope. tried that.

she'll only eat if we put the food on the floor....and will drink out of the bowl (since we obviously can't put water on the floor) but only when coaxed...and stands as far away as possible from the water bowl while doing so.

Not sure if serious..........waiting for joke......

His name is Lito.  We thought of the name laying in bed watching the replay of the 2006 game against Dallas when Lito Sheppard sealed it with the pick 6.

I don't joke about that. We named Kelcey after Jason Kelce.

What about off of a plate?  Our one dog, who is much, much older, started having trouble eating out of a bowl.  Then had trouble out of a raised bowl.  Now we are doing a raised pasta plate and that has been working well.

Welp.  That sucked.  Had to put our guy down. Had kidney failure.  Feel guilty to feel relieved that he’s not in pain anymore.  Man.  Our first family pet.

Really sorry man.  Just remember, you did right by him.

Man, that sucks. Sorry to hear. They really do become a part of the family.

We went through it in 2016 and it's devastating. Couldn't bring ourselves to get another dog until this past summer.

Damn man, sorry to hear that.

Sorry to hear!  I had to put my 14 year old black lab Molly down 5 years ago......2 years ago, my gf and I rescued brother and sister lab/pit pull mixes....Dot and Dash are now creating craziness in the household.  And I swore....would never get another dog......

Sorry for your loss.  Lost my St. Bernard to kidney failure a few years back as well.  Worst night of my life.

We still have our basset, who we thought we lost due to avocado-gate back in the summer.  I have heard people say just that though.

My first dog when I was still in elementary school and living with my parents obviously, died well over 20 years ago and I still have a hard time with it every now and then.

I still miss my girl we had to put down last March.
