The list of candidates for election into the Hall of Fame, which will occur early next year, also includes 19 players who were Semifinalists for the Class of 2022. It marks the largest number of Semifinalists since the Hall adopted the process of reducing the list of nominees to 25 (plus ties) in 2004. What's next in the Selection Process? The next step in the Selection Process comes when the Semifinalists are trimmed to 15 Modern-Era Player Finalists. That list increases to 19 Finalists with the inclusion of the recommended Nominees of the Hall of Fame’s Coach/Contributor Committee, Don Coryell; and Seniors Committee, Chuck Howley, Joe Klecko and Ken Riley. The Hall of Fame’s 49-person Selection Committee will select the Class of 2023 in advance of Super Bowl LVII in Glendale, Ariz. The class will be announced live on the "NFL Honors” telecast scheduled to air at 9 p.m. ET Feb. 9. While there is no set number for any class of enshrinees, the Bylaws for the Selection Committee provide that between four and nine new members will be selected. The Coach/Contributor and Seniors Finalists are voted "yes” or "no” for election at the annual selection meeting and must receive at least 80% support from the Committee to be elected. The Modern-Era Player Finalists will be trimmed during the meeting from 15 to 10, then from 10 to five. The remaining five finalists will be voted on individually, "yes” or "no,” and must receive the same 80% positive vote as the Coach/Contributor and Seniors Finalists to earn election to the Pro Football Hall of Fame. November 23, 20222 yr Been watching NFL flashback vids on Youtube of Eagles games from the 90s. It was just insane how dominant EA was.
November 23, 20222 yr It’s a crime that Allen wasn’t in years ago. IMO he was a better CB than Aeneas Williams. Couldn’t believe he got in before EA.

November 23, 20222 yr Honestly, those comments are why Watters should never get into the HOF. I root for Allen every year.
November 23, 20222 yr Author I remember this as clearly as if it was yesterday. (You have to watch it on YouTube)

I'm open to being convinced either way but don't really have an opinion either way. I also believe Seth belongs in. More so than Urlacher.

He had a terrific career and was an excellent player - I'm not arguing that. However he played in an era when lots of running backs put up big numbers because they literally had hundreds of carries. Ricky had 353 carries in 1996. By comparison, the most carries Miles Sanders ever had in his career is 179. My point is (I know you were waiting for me to actually make a point) we look at running backs from the past through today's lens and get a distorted view of their value. Just look at this list from 1996, Ricky's best year - (he wasn't even top 3 that season): https://www.nfl.com/stats/player-stats/category/rushing/1996/reg/all/rushingyards/desc The Hall of Fame is supposed to be for GOAT-level football legends. Eric Allen is a no brainer. But so is Ricky Watters.

Not taking anything away from Urlacher but Seth should most certainly have gone in before him. Seth Joyner- 195 games, 1123 tackles, 24 picks, 26 forced fumbles, 5 defensive scores, 2 first team all-pro's, 2 second team all- pros Brian Urlacher- 182 games, 1361 tackles, 22 picks, 11 forced fumbles, 4 defensive scores, 4 first team all- pro's, 1 second team all pro. Urlacher has more 1st team All- Pro's and an edge on total tackles. Is that enough to keep Seth out?

If the 1991 Eagles D had been Cowboys or Giants instead then 3 or 4 more of them would already be in the HoF Joyner and Allen belong for sure and Clyde has the numbers for consideration. (121.5 sacks was a huge number back then) Jerome played in 7 more games than Gayle Sayers and he was every bit as good as he was. (this would be special category like Sayers) Jerome was also a better football player than Tony Boselli (91 games) Every one of these players was better than Edge James and Drew Pearson.
