In the grand scheme of things this game isn’t important enough to even go out there and try and give the Cowboys more motivation to try and hit their quarterback. Why bring up Jalen’s injury if they plan to play him? Isn’t he listed as doubtful right now?

He is not listed as "doubtful." The media headlined this news as his status being "in doubt" and people have equated that to being "doubtful" which has an actual meaning in injury reports. If anything, the wording should have been "in question," but we all know that gets less clicks. Jalen might be sore, but he is fine. If we somehow let dallas have a win and then do choke in our last 2 games, this game won't be so meaningless as the Giants and Saints are both trying to make the playoffs still.

It cracks me up how nervous fans get about soreness. People have played hurt for decades. Resting every little injury is a "today" thing. I want the Eagles to win this week. If they do, we know the #1 seed is locked up.

Heck, if you want to worry so much, what happens if Minshew gets hurt? Or what if we have to play starters more games this year to get that final win and expose all of them to injuries just to "rest" Hurts?

The Eagles are the ones who let this out to begin with. If Jalen was "just a little sore” then why bring it up at all? All players are just a little sore right now. It’s obvious there is more to this than just him being a little sore. The Mialata comment made it obvious he’s more than just a little sore. And who cares about the Cowboys? Frankly I think Mishew can compete and possibly even beat them if need be.

Correct.  He's not listed as anything because the week's first injury report doesn't come out until Wednesday.  And both Hurts and Siriani say he might play. Now, that's obviously gamesmanship but it also says the injury isn't catastrophic or even serious.

How far ahead are the sports books and their sources? Vegas moved on this at least two hours before the story broke.  That is how sharp they are - they have better intel than the league itself, let alone NFL reporters like Schefter or McLane.  Here's a rough timeline (using MGM's line movements):

1:56 pm EST: Word starts to spread about "unannounced health issues"; I posted a query (previous page) on this thread a few minutes later, but nobody knew anything
2:08 pm: Line holding at Dallas -1.5
2:11 pm: Game comes off the board
2:13 pm: Game is back on the board, but the spread is moving north
4:20pm:  ESPN's Adam Schefter and Inquirer Eagles beat writer Jeff McLane break the story at exactly the same time via very similar tweets

So by the time the story broke - and by broke, I mean was fed to the media - the line had moved from 1.5 to 6.  The public never has a chance against these guys.

Dude, he is not playing.  Vegas moved the line 4 1/2 to 5 points in 2 hours before the announcement was made.

Bet MGM took the MVP odds off the board, and some sites moved Hurts to 4th in the MVP odds.

The odds have not moved at all since Sirianni and Hurts talked to the media.

Vegas knows, and you always trust them.

Besides, it will be way more embarrassing for the Cowboys when Minshew goes scorched earth on them.

I think people (and Vegas) underestimate that for every ounce of the Eagles not "trying hard" and holding something back, Dallas has an almost mathematically identical incentive to not try hard and to hold something back.

The #5 seed is essentially, exactly as certain for them as the #1 seed is for us.  After a BS cupcake game in nice weather Tampa, they come to the Linc for divisional playoffs.  Why not rest for that and hold back themselves?
There are TWO teams, not one, on Saturday that will not be all in to win this game.

There’s still a chance the Cowboys can clinch the east though. If the Eagles go winless and they win out I believe they take the East. It’s not likely, but it’s still possible so the Cowboys still do have a lot to play for.

I agree with you on both parts. This is Sirianni trying to give the Cowboys something else to plan for, but knowing that team and it’s arrogance they probably only prepare for Hurts and assume they can line up and just beat Minshew. The chances Jalen suits up for this game are slim to none IMO, but I do feel that if this were the playoffs he would be in there.

And Dallas has to win two more games if the Giants win out to avoid playing the 9ers first.

11-5-1 puts the Giants ahead of the 11-6 Cowboys.

And that chance is the mirror image of our chances of not winning the East.  So if they view that tiny sliver as something to play for, then it's something for us to play for.  If we want to assume there's no way the Eagles don't win 1 in 3 with or without Hurts and the Eagles have less to play for, then ditto Dallas.

Ultimately the Eagles don’t have to put their all into this one game like it’s do or die. Every game for the Cowboys is that until the Eagles win one more. Just as far as motivation goes Dallas has more than the Eagles do at least for this one. Still I think the Eagles can take them without Hurts, because they’re that good.

That spread moved way too much, I'd take Minshew and a TD all day long.

Let the hate rain down. Let us go out there and prove them all wrong. Again.

I see ESPN has us ranked 5th in their new power rankings. What a joke.

Minshew wasn't even there for the walkthrough. I'm thinking that if he was starting, he would have rearranged his schedule for something as important as his first start of the season.

It was a walk through, and Book took all the reps.  Get a grip, Hurts isn’t playing, and Gardner will wreck Dem Boyz.

Don't worry, you can wait one more week for Minshew Mania to begin. First, Hurts will lock up the #1 seed and earn some well deserved rest.

No, for the good of the Philadelphia Eagles winning a Super Bowl, the starter will sit out and get healthy, and the back up will wax the Cowboys.

Why do you want to risk Hurts being hurt more than he is ??

I want Hurts to play if he wants to play. He has earned the right to make the decision. He is the team leader and like Kelce when he plays hurt, Hurts will only command more respect from the team. This is football and people play hurt. There is still something on the line and this team isn't finished yet. Hurts can rest once they lock up the #1 seed that belongs to the Eagles. Why does my opinion hurt your feelings so much? It's kind of strange how important it is for you to play Minshew in a meaningful game.

I like Minshew and have confidence in him as a backup. But I want our best players to play until that #1 seed is ours.

It is important for the starter to not risk additional injury.  That risks the goal of a Super Bowl.

if he needs to play hurt to command respect, then something is lacking.

No, he needs to help the team win an important game. It's that simple. He can rest for the next 3 games and our backups pull out victories and be 100% healthy for the 1st playoff game and get a concussion in the 1st quarter of that game and all that rest will have done nothing. Or he can rest and we lose the next two games and make week 18 a must win game for the #1 seed and he plays a game he could have been able to rest for otherwise. Like I said, our first goal as of right now is the #1 seed. Then we can worry about rest.

Minshew will beat Dallas.  The Eagles are the superior team.

If he was to get injured additionally, that would be bad for the Eagles.
