Jahmyr Gibbs (Alabama RB) -- DRAFTED BY DETROIT #12

Watching ‘breaking the birds’ on YouTube breakdown the all22 footage of the Super Bowl and Miles Sanders is open a lot in the passing gaming but hurts doesn’t look his way

A guy like this getting looks will take them to the house. I don’t think Hurts or the offense trusted Sanders in the passing game but huge plays are there to be made.

Of course highlights can be misleading but I’ve seen him play a bunch of times and I’ve been impressed every time. Also, I wouldn’t blame him for Alabama’s down year, that’s not fair at all.

I saw 'Bama play quite a few time this year also but it was with the marquee matchups, aka against good competition and I wasn't impressed at all. DO NOT WANT!!

He reminds me of Dalvin Cook and as far as I'm concerned Cook isn't worth a damn.

Reminds me of Kamara when Kamara was good.

That’s my biggest concern about drafting a RB with a high pick. They’re great on their rookie contract but very rarely do they play well on their 2nd contract.

There is another way to look at it, and that’s that the 2nd contract is a completely different value proposition and opportunity cost. If you want a really good RB at a decent price, the only way to get that value proposition is through a draft pick.

I want Gibbs on the Eagles bad. Would be exciting to watch.

We saw what AJ Brown did for hurts and the Eagles offense but I’m not sure how many fans realize what a player like Gibbs would do as well. Try to defend Hurts/Gibbs option.

Another thing is I don’t know how many of us realize how open the RBs were coming out of the backfield but Hurts didn’t see it/look their way. These are easy plays that pad the stats and get the QB in rhythm and a player like Gibbs has to be accounted for. Hurts never looked sanders way.

We saw what Gainwell could do catching the ball out of the backfield.. would love to see a player like this get those chances

There’s going to be too many quality RB’s still on the board in the 3rd round+ and too many other needs to address to use a 1st or 2nd on Gibbs

Can definitely get a pretty awesome back in the 3rd round. My hope is that they trade down with  30 and even with 10 if their target isn't there. Grab some more 2nd/3rd rounders. With the cap in mind they probably don't need to add two more 1st rounders to the fray anyway. Go CB and DL early. Some intriguing talent out there.

I’m 100% in the trade down club

Apparently this kid has officially met with the Cowboys and the Eagles. This could be gamesmanship by both parties to try and convince the other he’s high on their list. The Eagles also like to meet with several players often to mask their true intentions. I doubt there’s real interest here, but time will tell.

Didn't the girls franchise Pollard?

Yup. They’re putting an insane amount of money at that position.

Would be very strange imo if they took Gibbs. Would make zero sense.

The reports out of the combine suggest he won't make it out of the first, and the biggest holes in the roster from this year are on the defensive sides of the ball, I like him as a player, but at tailback we could get production out of someone taken later, whereas Corner will be done in the first two rounds in terms of instant starters.

I'm starting to feel, fall to the side of.....stack up on offense!!  We aren't going to be able to save the defense this year.  Next year we are going to have like 12 picks......so this year, just make the offense indefensible and hope the defense can sometimes be a roadbump.  Next year, get the best, nastiest players on defense in the draft and complete the re-tool.

Wouldn't be surprised if they got Bijan

This. The RPO offense isn’t the offense that can fully optimize a pass catching RB so I think that skill set would be largely wasted here. At some point, there’s honestly not enough footballs to go around between the receivers, Goeddert, and the RPO to use a 1st on a RB. Especially when they’ll have several starter positions to replace from free agents and retirees and when RB’s like Devon Achane and Sean Tucker will be available in mid rounds

If we have an OC that's not creative enough to figure out how to get mismatches with Gibbs in the passing game with his 4.3 speed we have some bigger issues.

I don't think the Eagles are looking to redesign their offense around a rookie. Also drafting Gibbs sort of takes Gainwell out and I think they are happy with him right now

Not necessarily. Scott and Penny are on 1 year deals. It wouldn't be redesigning the offense at all either. They go empty at times now with lesser talent splitting out backs or putting them in motion. It's not like it's something that they haven't done.  They just don't have a talented enough pass catching RB that can really make it extremely effective and scare the hell out of defenses with the RB. Sanders and Gainwell have had the droppsies in the past. Scott just isn't that type of player. Penny isn't either. I'm not opposed to someone as dynamic as Gibbs. There's noone on the roster like him and don't dare say Gainwell lol. I just wouldn't draft him in the 1st round.

Example broken down by Warner (after watching this now imagine if you had an actual threat at RB when they are split out and not just running decoy clear outs). Matchup hell. Bijan would be the best pass catching RB on the team as well:

Scott is no slouch in the pass game, they just didn't utilize him enough for that. I have been begging for a better screen game for the RB to counter blitzes. Instead we used WRs and TEs for it. Wasn't too effective.

None of these backs are stellar receivers where you'd waste targets on them when they are split out.
