Hurts will cost us very little next year with a big deal, that is how extensions while still on rookie deals work. In Fact, Howie could very well cap-Wizard the deal to not really hit hard until 2025-2026, then of which his deal may be a bargain… or we could be lining up another extension to reduce the cap hits at the end of that one. It’s all a big exercise in pushing the money down the line, manipulating the imagined barriers.

I wouldn't push Hurts salary further back if I had the choice with his style... He improved his throwing definitely, but still missed some games and threw 22 tds. Yes, he ran quite a few in, but at what cost? Being injured going into the playoffs when we need him at his best
January 11, 20232 yr In this scenario would GM Howie get DT Jalen Carter to play next to Jordan Davis for the future interior? Or Nolan Smith for RE? Or CB Kelee Ringo as depth at CB? Or Jordan Addison to replace Quez or move Watkins to 4th WR? or Brian Branch Safety to replace Epps?

I think there is zero chance of Jalen playing next year without a new deal in place. The Eagles have flexibility in using that final year as part of the new contract structure to keep his 2023 cap number manageable, but Jalen's agent won't let him play in 2023 under that rookie deal without a new agreement in place. That would get ugly really quick.
January 11, 20232 yr For me the bigger factor is the brutal schedule. We play the 49ers, Bills, Chiefs, and Vikings. I dont see a single gimme game in the entire schedule.
January 11, 20232 yr There are 2 words that will settle all your "worries"....... HOWIE FN ROSEMAN!!!!!
January 11, 20232 yr Howie is a master of cap shenanigans and deal making. That's why I'm not worried about the impact of Hurts' mega extension.
January 11, 20232 yr Why worry about the next season when we aren’t even out of this one? Anyone remember the whole "hidden cap hell” thread? Remember the Howie in the basement thread? I’m not worried and even if they do take a step back in 2023 the Eagles since Lurie has been here rarely ever stay down.

Jalen Hurts signed a 4 year, $6,025,171 contract with the Philadelphia Eagles, including a $1,941,944 signing bonus, $2,825,815 guaranteed, and an average annual salary of $1,506,293. Isn't it funny that after one great season we are talking about not having enough money to sign QB Jalen Hurts, and some wonder if he's the Eagles MVP.

They can be manipulated to however they’re needed and often backloaded to points where the players don’t even see that money. I’m pretty sure Howie’s going to lock that up fine, but I am worried about replacing some of these older players and contracts. Howie is going to need to @NOTW "nail the draft” over the next couple of years to keep young manageable talent on the roster. That’s why I think he’s trading down and acquiring more picks once again.

In bold are the players I think will be back. BG's had a great year in a PT role, I think he'll be back for 1 more year on a reasonable year. CGJ and Hargrave I think are priorities. Epps will be affordable; Seumalo will cost a bit, but I don't think he breaks the bank. Edwards can't cover well, but he's a solid tackler with good instincts ... his limitations in the passing game will keep his price affordable. Hurts' deal will be cap friendly in year one and somewhat friendly year 2 ... after that Howie needs to get really creative 🙂 Yep - Dean replaces White. Big time savings.
January 11, 20232 yr Jalen Hurts will not hold out or push for the maximum deal. He is a team player and a leader who will do what is right for the team. Of course that will be a top 5-10 QB contract, but it will be a long term deal that will spread the money over a number of years so Howie will have flexibility to field an elite team.
January 11, 20232 yr I think Hurts also knows not all teams might have the tools or even know how to run a RPO system. I think he realizes his own strengths and limitations.

Eagles will need to pay him before it gets bad.
January 11, 20232 yr 13 hours ago, ManchesterEagle said: Roughly this. It's not going to be easy, but this team is silly talented. Hurts will get a big deal, but it will be an extension and shouldn't count too much towards this years cap. I don't see how we can pay Bradberry, but we make Hargrave a priority and try and sign Edwards and CGJ and if that doesn't work out fall back on White and Epps. I suspect we get a corner with one of our firsts in a deep class. They could cut Slay with a June 1st designation and pay Bradberry, Slay has been coasting since mid season and isn't worth near what he's due to get paid next year.

People will say that it looks massive, but I’m sure Howie will find a way to have several work around and an out if needed.

They fooled around with his contract and it cost them a ton of money unnecessarily. Plus they had a huge cap hit when they tagged him.
