EAGLES MAKE OBSCURE NFL HISTORY BY CLINCHING NO. 1 SEED VS. GIANTS

The Philadelphia Eagles are really, really good. Nick Sirianni and Jalen Hurts lead the team to a 14-3 record and the No. 1 seed in the NFC, securing a bye and home field advantage. Interestingly enough, we’ve seen this same scene play out relatively recently in the 2018 playoffs, with Doug Pederson and Carson Wentz (with a dab of Nick Foles) heading to and winning the Super Bowl as the No. 1 seed.

Many of us were left thinking, "huh, five years is a pretty quick turnaround time for a team with a new head coach and a newly drafted QB. I wonder if anyone has ever done that before?”

Well, you’ll be pleased to know, the Eagles were the first team to do that in NFL History. Don’t believe me?

Adam Schefter shared this obscure but impressive fact about the Eagles on Twitter:

When you think about it, it’s kind of absurd. When teams clean house of coach and QB in one offseason, it usually spells a lengthy rebuild. This is Nick Sirianni’s second year as a head coach in his career, and Jalen Hurts was a second-round pick in 2020.

Most teams waffle for years or even decades before finding a winning formula. It looks like Howie Roseman really is just that much better than anyone else in the league.

Not only does this fact show the rapid ascent of the new regime, but also how quickly Eagles leadership pulled the plug on Pederson and Wentz after a magical season. Many organizations are content to trot the same QB and coach out there because they won them a Super Bowl.

Howie Roseman and the Eagles had no such intentions.

 

While Howie Roseman has done an incredible job building this roster, Nick Sirianni has done a fantastic job creating a winning culture. The locker room is incredibly tight, and his offensive scheme developed alongside Shane Steichen has put the elite talent Roseman has provided in positions to succeed.

The man this all revolves around, however, is Jalen Hurts. The system doesn’t exist with him. The franchise records aren’t broken without him. Hurts is 17-1 in his last 18 regular season starts, so let’s see if he can continue that level of dominance as the No. 1 seed this postseason.

You've got to give huge credit to Sirianni, Hurts but also Howie. This team finished 4-12 2/3 years ago and was on the slide. They've all done an incredible job to turn this around so quickly and have a pretty bright future.

Yeah. And this wasn‘t even us going ‚all-in‘ like some like to say. Roseman did this while still adding future picks. Incredible.
