Fathers day

Recommended Posts

while preppy the truck for trip to church this morning, i had to put a couple things away in the center council. One  glance in and it hit  me what being a father means: you don't start ready but over time you gather tools and memories that you'll use throughout the relationship with your children.

You may not always be ready but you'll always have the tools & memories you need.  Happy father's day dads.

how's the adoption deal going, are you and the Bink moving forward with it ? May I highly suggest a girl.

you'll go through a wall with your sons but you'll tear through a wall for your daughter.

Got breakfast with my boys.

Took them swimming with my parents.

Came home for a little and went back for some chicken and steak on the grill.  My mom cooked four everyone.

Then the boys played with bubbles in their yard while my dad brought out the shop vac and we spent time while I gave my car a much needed vacuuming.

Which ties in to my fathers day gift from my wife.  I got a battery operated worx portable vac to keep in my trunk. Now whenever my kids make a little mess in the car I can easily take care of it right then.  Rather than being able to feed a family of raccoons out of my back seat.

The two sons still in the area came over and made ribs on the grill. Got choked up because 4year old daughter had me watch the 37 Irish singers cover the cranberries dreams (look it up dad's who have daughters, & then read why they did the cover), sipped tequila. Oh, my future daughter in law wished me happy father's day 15 hours before anyone, love her to death. She lives in the Philippines and has been waiting to join my son at Fort Campbell.

During his return from his no-notice new year's deployment to the UAE my son had a layover in Ireland and picked up a bottle of Irish whiskey as a present for Father's Day; we broke that open last night after dinner.

Moving forward.   Just a lot of boxes to check off.

Got a gift card for a cigar store in State College. Whole family was over, my daughter cooked some T-Bones on the grill for us. Smoked a couple of stogies with my sons and my sil on the back deck. My oldest son moves this Thursday.

Saturday I picked up the boat from my dad's house and put it into summer storage near the river. Took care of a few small tasks around the house for him while I was there, then had a nice surprise visit with my godfather who stopped in to see my dad.

Sunday I spent the day doing yard work and pressure washing the deck while the kids played in the pool. After I was done I got to spend about half an hour playing with them before cooking salmon and zucchini on the grill for dinner. Enjoyed it with a cold beer on the deck.

my future daughter in law (the filipino my son met) sent me multiple messages for father's day, one was acknowledging the sacrifices father's make. I informed her a father eventually finds great joy in the sacrifices he makes, any 'loss' is replaced a million fold with joy.

We were on the beach yesterday and schmoopie noticed some old b***** struggling to set up a canopy and sent me over to help.  While talking to him sure enough he was tying to get everything set up for his kids and grandkids.

So Amy Shumer decided yesterday that she needed to thank her Mom, because her Mom was "everything for her". That's great Amy, did you know that there is indeed a holiday called Mothers day.

If i was her father, i'd be thankful she went that route.

Bought 5 Montecristo cigars Saturday night for the father in law, brother in law, wife's cousin (cousin in law?), wife's uncle, and myself Saturday night when we were all together.  I'm the only one that isn't a dad yet, but I smoked the sheet out of that cigar.

Thanks for asking.  Not sure what I've posted on here, but they stopped chemo a week or two ago. The cancer is basically dormant at this point and not spreading at all, but unfortunately his liver is shot and shutting down. They're monitoring his blood work for the next few weeks to see how fast it is happening now that he's free of the effects of the chemo and they'll get an idea of how long he has left. Since stopping the chemo he generally has more energetic and is feeling pretty good. Our understanding is that he has somewhere between a handful of weeks and possibly many months left. Hard to believe that we've been going through this for more than 18 months and don't have any better idea of how long he has left now than we did when he was first diagnosed.

Mentally, his spirits seem to be generally good and he said to me that he just hopes he's able to function and do stuff around the house through the end of summer.

He's also starting to divvy up his things between the kids. My wife and I got his aluminum fishing boat and '55 Chevy restoration project. Sister got his '16 Silverado. Brother doesn't want anything. I think my sister and I are going to buy his guns off him and split them up rather than letting them go to a shop like he was planning to do. I really hope I'm able to get the 55 back on the road before he passes but I don't know that is realistic.
