March 1, 20232 yr Did anyone hear the rumor that Mike Pettine may join the coaching staff, perhaps as a LB coach?

I got thi from an online article as I dug deeper into what this new DC believes in: "Sirianni and Roseman are obviously big believers in Fangio’s scheme – they brought him in before the Super Bowl to serve as a consultant – and in Desai they have someone who is a clear Fangio disciple. That means a 3-4 base, lots of zone coverage, two-high safety shell, coverages geared to prevent big plays, producing sacks without blitzing." Sound familiar? I hope this is NOT the case. Couldn't give a monkey's toss about scheme, all that matters is what happens on the field, the scheme is not to blame for the pass rush slip sliding away nor the secondary allowing the Chiefs receivers to run wild and free on the last two TD's. Whatever you think of Gannon's scheme we had an all timer of a regular season defense.

Reality is he was a Zimmer guy who ran a lot of Fangio stuff in 2022. It worked a lot but he didn't know how to deal with certain situations. Hoping that Desai does. Seems like he is smart enough. We won't know until we know.

I care about adjusting and not being so rigid that you can't deviate from a plan or scheme when needed.

Maybe that was on Gannon, but his mentor (Fangio) was with him preparing that scheme for the Super Bowl. He was a paid assistant all year also. I wonder how much of a difference we will actually see this coming year especially with the potential of losing so many defensive starters.

Fangio was actually hired (as a consultant) to assist the OFFENSE ... not the defense. https://www.nfl.com/news/vic-fangio-quietly-signed-contract-with-eagles-to-help-prepare-them-for-super-bo

They borrowed some Fangio concepts this season

A few more twists and changes that will fit the new personal. The old way of doing things is unsustainable in view of all the losses of free agents. But we will see what Howie cooks up.

Maybe... maybe not... but that's not what he was hired to do. I doubt there was any significant game planning with him however as many believe.

I'm not really endeared to him the way I was to Jim Johnson or Bud Carson, but I hope he has a successful career and wins as many games as he can, so long as it's not against the Eagles. Rich Kotite? Jim Washburn?

March 3, 20232 yr At the end of the day, the guys with the headsets on can only do so much. If your guys on the field can consistently beat the guys across from them, you win. To me, situational matchups matter a great deal. Finding the right players to consistently win those matchups is a challenge. Given the number of FA's, the Eagles need to have a great draft and FA period. It's Howie time.

Not sure if that stuff was the fault of coaching, scheme, or just bad luck, but whatever the case it was the worst possible time for the defense to faulted the way that they did.

The defense sure did have bad luck against above avg QBs
