Eagles Mock Draft 03-04-2023

A little over a week until free agency starts and we’re still haven’t seen Howie making moves. For some reason I have the feeling Howie’s open to letting the majority of their FA’s walk. Heck…he’s already talking about getting a ton of quality comp picks in 2024. My guess is that’s the plan and we’ll be taking a step back this season.

The good thing is that the Eagles have found their Franchise QB and the offense is going to be in good shape going forward.

The bad news…the defense is going to lose a ton of good players.

Although I believe the Eagles would love to re-sign CJGJ the feeling here is that he wants to test FA looking for top 3 safety money and I don’t know if the Eagles are willing to go that far. But hey, hopefully I’m wrong!

Here goes;

Trade:

Quez Watkins to the Indianapolis Colts for a 4th in 2023.

Let walk;

Fletcher Cox, James Bradberry, Robert Quinn, Isaac Seumalo, Kysir White, Ndamukong Suh, Miles Sanders, Gardner Minchew, Javon Hargrave, CJ Gardner-Johnson, Andre Dillard

That’s about 3 third round, 1or 2 fourth round and maybe some later 2024 comp picks.

Restructure;

Lane Johnson, Jake Elliott, Darius Slay

Keep;

Marcus Epps, Linval Joseph, Zach Pascal, Boston Scott, Rick Lovato, TJ Edwards and Brandon Graham

Return for another run;

Jason Kelce

New contract;

Jalen Hurts (will kick in next year)

Notable FA’s:

Adrian Amos, S, Green Bay Packers

Artie Burns, CB, Seattle Seahawks

Kaden Elliss, LB, New Orleans

Both Amos and Burns won’t break the bank and have ties to Desai. Elliss will compete with starters Edwards and Dean.

Draft;

Trade alert!

Eagles trade pick No.10 to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for pick #19, #50, #155 and #174.

1) Calijah Kancey, DT, Pittsburgh;

Let’s face it! This is what the Eagles do! Prioritize the trenches. Kancey had a great combine and would be a perfect complement to big Jordan Davis in the middle of our defense.

1) Kelee Ringo, CB, Georgia;

Could use a year watching and learning but the tools are there.

2) Zack Charbonnet, RB, UCLA;

Miles Sanders replacement.

Trade alert!

Eagles trade pick No.62 to the Jacksonville Jaguars for pick #88 and #121.

3) Brandon Joseph, S, Notre Dame;

Future starter at safety.

4) Dorian Thompson-Robinson, QB, UCLA;

Our perfect backup QB

4) Jayden Reed, WR, Michigan State;

Our No.3 receiver?!

5) Thomas Incoom, Edge, Central Michigan;

Backup edge rusher

7) Aubrey Miller Jr., LB, Jackson State;

LB depth and special teamer.

7) Alec Jackson, OG, Auburn;

OL depth

I don’t mind the moves you made but you are overvaluing Quez by a ton. No one would trade a 4th for Quez. You would be lucky if you got a 6th rounder.

Hey Ray. How you doin?

Just FYI--only allowed a total of 4 comp picks in a year. So I think Howie will bring back a couple more. NO clue who yet

Ok with trade with Tampa. Don't like that DT pick at 20. Undersized with short arms spells trouble. Would be a passing down specialist only. Not good for #20 pick

Like this draft. But, the Eagles need a CB. The Rookie is going to have to start, given that Bradbury is a goner. The majority of this Draft has to address the defense at every level, like the draft above.

Sets us up nicely. I like your thinking.

Kancey - We already have a slightlyundersized DT in Williams so if Bresee isn't there I;d probably wait a round for Dexter.

I actually think Ringo can start.

Charbonnet woulds be a terrific pick - I;ve been on him all season.

I;d probably hold on to that pick at 62 and replace Seumalo with either Avila or Vorhees.

If Battle is there I'd pass on Joseph. Watched a couple Irish games and wasn't immpressed with Joseph or Foskey.

Thanks pal - nice read.

See I've learned not to carp about cap space and free agent signings with you - we always disagree on how much Howie can stretch the dollars and the rules so I;ll just let it alone until we're pretty deep in free agency.

Thanks Rob.

I like to put out ideas. It’s not just about the players I have the Eagles selecting, it’s about the concept and specific positions.

We all want Howie to draft a corner at #10, I know I do. But since 2002 they haven’t taken a CB in the first. So what are the odds they’ll do it this time around? Especially considering the position group is deep and talented.

I really hope I’m wrong but my gut feeling says Howie is banking on some of their FA’s to sign lucrative contracts elsewhere and hopes a couple of our FA have soft markets and return to Philly relatively cheap.

For example; what if Cox, BG and Epps don’t like what other teams are offering.

For some reason I get the feeling Eagles and CJGJ are not going to agree on contract terms and money. Although I love the player, I think he’s all about the money and isn’t loyal to Philly. Like Bradberry…possibly one year mercenaries. And remember; if CJGJ signs a big time deal elsewhere, Howie will turn the 4th rounder he gave up to get him into a late 3rd rounder next year.

So this mock is about the idea of Eagles letting key FA’s walk with the goal of getting good comp picks next year, looking for bargains in FA, trading back a couple of times to get more picks this year and do what they always do and that’s prioritizing the trenches with their first pick.

Kancey is a concern,  He's not Donald, even smaller.  Add in arm length and he's a rotational player like Davis for me.  Nothing wrong with that......but round 1 seems a bit rich.  I see Ringo as a S, but if he can play corner ok.

Charbonnet is my favorite back in this draft, but Gibbs is second, and I don't see either landing in Philly, sadly.  I would see Gibbs' ability to motion to slot being of greater value to them.  Everything else seems to line up -but late rounds are always a crapshoot.
