He also posted something on twitter that he later deleted because he got called out on it.

Do you think if he's that much of a problem, you trust the coaches & management to make the right decision since they work with him every day?

I get your take, I just don't think it's a major problem.

Sounds like they don't really give a damn if they're letting him seek out trades. Slay has some leverage but the Eagles aren't breaking their necks to sign him otherwise a deal would have already been done that would help them in negotiations with other players right now with some freed up space.

It would likely be a acceleration of a bonus with an extension similar to what they did with Cox, Lane, and Kelce at times kicking the can to free up space.

They already kicked the can with Slay. Hence the 3 void years. They would need to extend and kick even further unless they want a potential dead cap hit of 10+mil after Slay is no longer with the team in a couple years.

They kick cans indefinitely... it's the Howie way.

It is the NFL way. Every team does it. Just a question of if they want to kick that can beyond 3 years.

Curious if Slay could play safety when his days of being a CB are over. That usually plays a part for folks at his position when it comes to extensions.

I think he's to small, any corner like Woodson, both Charles and Rod were hella tacklers to go on with there coverage abilities. Slay is more on the lines of an Asante Samuel build where contact is mostly avoided.

This is a different league though. Safeties are more so cover guys these days. Hardly ever see the big in the box safeties in this era. For reference McCleod and Honey Badger are smaller than Slay.

They still have to tackle. A lot of safeties are being played at LB. And also teams ran at a much higher rate and with a lot of success last season because they faced so many nickel and dime fronts. Teams are taking advantages of the smaller and faster defenses and running on them.

CBs have to tackle too. I don't recall Slay being a terrible tackler. Depends on the scheme I suppose. If were running two high then you don't necessarily have to be Dawkins back there.

I have no idea though. Maybe he could convert to safety. Need to worry about this season.

I'm worrying about this off-season which may involve extending Slay. If you're extending him there better be a plan for him when he can't play on the outside anymore.

Teams don't worry about future years. And also the salary cap will continue to go up presumably. Which means the cap hit in future years from today's value may not have as much of an impact on future seasons.

Sure they worry about the future. That determines how long they will extend him especially considering he'll be 33 by the playoffs.

Does Bradberry’s signing push this more in the direction now that they will release him with a post June 1 designation (if they are unable to find a trade partner)?

Howie could just wait for the draft and make sure he secures a top CB prospect with their early 1st round pick, then trade him on draft day or after the draft.  Or he trades him prior to the draft to secure more draft picks and give flexibility to get the corner he wants in the draft.  But certainly signing Bradberry solves a piece of the overall puzzle to help him with next steps going forward.

Before people buy the rumor they were going to trade with the Cowboys.

Thinking they may need the cap space ($17.5M) before the start of the new league year (when these new deals become official), unless they restructure other players like Johnson again.

Could be.  Imagine trading Slay soon to free up cap space and also collect a pick or 2 to add to this draft.  I like Slay and all, but Bradberry is younger and had a better year, and drafting a corner at #10 (or 11, 12, 13 depending on potential trade backs) to solidify the starting corners and then having an additional draft pick or a couple mid to late round picks to help the roster.  That would be a plus.

Here's the one thing I still haven't found a concrete answer on ... if you trade Slay tomorrow, can you still designate the move a post June 1st transaction? Because from what I gather, unless the move (trade or release) is designated post June 1st ... it doesn't really give us much cap savings at all. Does anyone know the concrete answer to this?

I think you can, but it still ties up the team’s cap until that June period.

Have to think he gets cut now and designated post June. No one will trade for him.

You can only restructure a players contract once in any rolling 12 month period, so Lane can't be restructured until September.

Thanks, I was not aware of that.

Eagles plan to release slay reported by John Clark. How does this make any Cap sense?

Probably with a June 1st designation?
