I'd prefer then inject some youth into this defense finally. We've already brought back 3 guys in the back end of their careers. Trying to run it back I assume.

Let Slay groom the rookie to take over next season.

I know it’s fashionable to think Slay sucks around here and quote the QB rating against in the second half of the season, but he is still a really good corner, often left on an island.. It’s great news he is back. We will still probably get a corner in the first or second, but we don’t have to reach and he can learn for a year behind Slay.

I think some of us just think he’s going to cost a lot to keep and perhaps cutting him is the better longer term option. That’s not because he sucks but the cap savings would allow us to do more with the roster. And if they were to draft a CB in the first round then medium term you would have them plus Bradberry.

There is room for a third corner behind them. I always liked Maddox in the slot but if I am really honest he was a weak link at times. Better than the next up but still.. Adding a top corner to groom and play in the slot could really help us.

Look there’s no doubt Slay on this team next year makes the CB position very strong again. But by keeping him they limit the other moves that they can make.

But by keeping him they limit the other moves that they can make. On the contrary, keeping him frees up money! If we released him we would have had to keep his full salary through June 1st. We would have saved at that point, but then incurred dead cap hits the next 2 seasons. He is not getting any extra money, but they are restructuring to spread the hit. So we free up more money now and still spread a lot of the inevitable cap hit. It’s a good thing!
March 16, 20232 yr Slay announced his own release, then changed his mind? The Eagles never actually said anything about releasing him.
March 16, 20232 yr Seems pretty clear to me, that Slay couldn't find a team to trade for him and couldn't find a team to pay if he became a Free Agent. Taking that it consideration he decided to accept Howie's deal to renegotiate his contract. Slay's bargaining power evaporated and he had to swallow his pride and take the deal.
March 16, 20232 yr Howie knows the market and knew that Slay wouldn't get offers better than he was getting here ... so to make them understand that they "had" to take the Eagles restructure offer he let them check the market. Then to hurry things up he's like ... I'll just cut ya and you can waive good bye to the 17 mil ... Savage!

March 16, 20232 yr I always expected to keep Slay. It's the other side where I thought we couldn't afford the price tag. If we can keep CJGJ, we'll have done a great job of limiting the FA damage.
